    Hey all

My left hand front caliper is done for (well sorta)... the bleed nipple is trash and when I went to bleed the brakes today the thread of the caliper came up with the nipple... Taking it out it looks like the previous owner must have already threaded most of it and now the last of it's gone.

So now I need to find a replacement... Has anyone replaced stock with calipers from a different model? like an XJ600, or another yammy from the same period? Just so I can broaden my search as the few XJ900F ones I've seen look a bit worse for wear and I'd hate to buy a replacement caliper that's almost as useless as the one I've got now.

    Cheers!
    James

    Relax.
You don't need a New Caliper.

Just run an M-10 Bottom Tap in the Bleeder Hole.
    Then, use an Overzize Bleeder.

Just be absolutely sure you use a BOTTOM Tap.
    The Tap is NOT pointed.
The Tap has a Flat Bottom.

The M-10 Bleeder are readily available.
You can get them in a wide variety of colors.

I'll try that tomorrow. I bought a bleed nipple from a yammy parts supplier that is supposed to fit my caliper and its a different size, the thread / length seems fine but the diameter of the cone end is smaller on the original one, I have yet track down replacement ones that are the same as whats in my old 89 calipers.. (pic attached of my old, knackard bleed nipple and the replacement that is supposed to be for my year XJ900F)

    I'm confused.
I thought the Threads within the Caliper got knackered.
(Is that the word for stripped???)

If you just need new Bleeders.
Treat yourself to Stainless with Self Bleeder One-way valves.

I think you can get them from the nice gentleman who is the Parts Supplier for this Forum.

    Well both.

The bleed screw as you can see, had it's head mutilated before I bought the bike. I bought a replacement from a yammy parts dealer, but when the old screw came out it took the thread with it.

My concern is, if I tap the caliper to M10, can I find a bleed screw that has a small enough head to fit as the M8 Flat they sent me seems to have a bigger cone end than the original

that new nipple might be ok, it's the beveled part that seals.

ah ok, so it was just the thread in the caliper being a gonner that caused the new one not to fit.

I'll try to get the caliper tapped tomorrow and let you know, cheers!
