Seca 750 Diode

    So the diode that's part of the charging system, does anyone have a picture of where it's supposed to be?

    I've been chasing down why my bike runs and starts great, but simply will not charge. I have replaced the stator, R/R, measured the pickups, cleaned the rotor face, and shot the wiring. I cannot find the diode block, and think it might be part of my problem. Also, I seem to have 3 or 4 plugs that are not hooked to anything. Anyone able to help me ID them? The wiring diagram isn't super helpful.

    This one is up on the spine of the frame.
    4 prong, (black)(black w/ white)(blue w/ yellow)(red w/ white)

    I'm visiting a friend in Arizona, so I don't have access to my reference material, but ISTR the rectifier block sits next to the TCI, and is mounted inside a rather largish finned heatsink. Is there such an animal with an open connector on it?

    A bit of googling turned up a wiring diagram; following the three white wires coming off the alternator, it goes into a box where the four colored wires don't quite match what you're showing, but I'm reasonably certain that's it. BTW, is the blue wire cut in that picture? The diagram I'm looking at shows it leading back to the alternator; I'm guessing it's part of a feedback loop.

    The diode block can be found in the headlight bucket. Look for a 1"x1"x1/4" rubber block that has a +/- 3" pigtail & plug out of one end

    I'm using my 82 Seca schematic.
    Your mystery 4 pin connector on the spine is for the side stand relay.
    #2- is the side stand switch connector (the green wire should have a blue stripe)
    #3- is the starter circuit cut off relay (the blue wire should be for the clutch switch, it should also have a yellow stripe)
    Your diode block is in the headlight bucket as mentioned by SecaRob. Wire colors should be White/Blue, Blue/Yellow, Light blue, and White.

    While the diode block is in the headlamp bucket, I do not believe any of them are involved in the charging system.

    The diodes for the charging system are built into the regulator/rectifier.

    Sounds good. I'm going to assume that my sidestand relay, and cut-out relay are bypassed then because it needs neither clutch nor specific sidestand position to start....which is fine. But now I'm further perplexed as to why a lot of my readings are off and my bike won't charge.

    I'm +1 with MiCarl, the rectifier contains your charging diodes. A dead diode there will lead to a LOT of weird readings and a no charge state. I'd do a quick resistance check, such as the one outlined in the Haynes manual, and swap it at first chance if you note any abnormalities.

    With my meters I've found that there is only one resistance range that is suitable for testing diodes, and they're labeled. Any other range gives bad/no results.

    Also, different meters seem to read diodes differently. Generally it seems if you get a reading one direction and infinity with polarity switched the diode is good.

    weird part is, i've swapped in 2 other R/R's with no results
