    Hey all,

I have a petcock that came with one of my XJ700Xs. It isn't a standard X petcock, though. I think it might be from a larger bike, like a 900 or an 1100. Works good, though. I actually cleaned it up, polished the valve surface, and lapped all the mating surfaces. The membrane and other rubber parts are in good shape. There are a few rust spots on the chrome faceplate, and there is some rust staining on the surface of the filter (from the tank), but not enough to be a problem. Petcock works great, it just didn't fit my X very well. This petcock has the fuel outlet tube pointing down, which is tight for my fuel hose. The stock petcock has the fuel outlet tube pointing slightly up from horizontal.

Anyway, I'd like $20. I'm not entirely sure, but I think that seems like a fair deal. Feel free to let me know if you need this petcock, but you think I'm nuts for asking so much... Oh, shipping should be about $8 for priority mail anywhere in CONUS.

That substitution happens automatically? All this time I thought people were just trying to be funny.

So this was on your 700X, but it didn't work well? Did it leak? What did you end up using?

The one I kept was fine. It was just rougher looking than this one. I cleaned this one up first. but when I put it on my bike, I realized that I wouldn't be happy with how it forced my fuel hose to route down under the carbs and back up between the carbs and the airbox. So, I followed fitz's instructions again and did the other, stock petcock. They both turned out nice. Neither of them leaked or had any problems. I just had everything apart, so I decided to clean them up. I used 600 - 1200 grit sand paper on a marble tile to flatten the mating surfaces, then I polished the brass parts and cleaned everything out. I also polished the valve seat in both.

This is a good petcock. It just came from a bike with more room than my X has.
