    i have nothing comiung to my gauges and headlight no lights only oil and turn on gauges. ive delt with alot newer bike, and i bought this one for my dad can anyone please help

    My advice is to check the fuses.

    its not fuses, i thoiught i saw something on here before about this problem and its a relay or something i really want to get this done soon. i just cant figure it out

    it's the fuse man. it's the fuse. jk

    you've probably lost the connection somewhere between the fuse and the ligths circuits. the only relay listed in the diagram is the flasher relay. and starter relay

    so your sayin that the selioned thATS NEXT TO THE BATTERY IS THE STARTER SWITCH AND THATS WHATS FAULTY

    Is the headlight out even when the bike is running?
    On most XJs, the headlight will not come on until you start the bike.

    The starter solenoid doesn't have anything to do with headlights.

    maybe the bulbs are simply burnt out, both of mine did,,, think 30 year old bulbs. Be prepared to take apart the cluster to change them.

    i guess because my yamahas are later all my headlights come on when you turn the key on go out when starter button is pressed then comes back on

    EXACTLY! On our older ones, the headlight doesn't come on until the engine is started (the first time), then doesn't go off until the ignition switch is turned off. Power saving measure??? Maybe. But, if you shut the engine off and restart, the light stays on during the start. Hmmm

    brand new headlight. headlight does not turn on no matter what.

    check the headlight relay under the tank. mine was doing the same thing, i cleaned the connector pins with sandpaper and washed out the plug with contact cleaner, has worked ever since
