I've had my xj for about 3 months and every so often id ride longer than 1 hour. After that hour my bike starts to blow smoke slowly and one time, I had gone on a canyon ride and parked my bike. After turning off my bike my bike just released a whole lot of smoke like a fog machine! Lol don't know what's wrong with it but it runs! I drive to work and school and its only 5 miles back and forth 10 miles total in the city. I've looked around and people say white smoke is from water? I'm sure its white but it could be blue white as i,m not too sure of the color... is blue - white smoke disctinguishable?

Lol my last word is not spelled right, rite? Thanks for those who spend their time reading my Q

BTW, I cleaned my motor and it seems like oil is coming out from somewhere around my plugs b/c its really greasy there. Maybe that's a different problem?

Let's narrow it down- - what do your plugs look like??
Can you take a pic of them on brown cardboard, and post it ?? (1,2,3,4)

Is the white smoke/fog machine coming from the exhaust tip??
That could be a flooding carb after a run. Raw gas could do that.
Burning oil is a blue/white, but would stop when the engine stops, but if you have the factory exhaust, air blows into one pipe, pushing all the exhaust smoke out the other.

Are you consuming oil- - check your window. fill until there is only a small bubble in window, go for a long ride.

It also sounds like you may have the original valve cover

Thanks for the speedy reply, I don't have a water cooled, its just an air cooled bike, sorry to mention, I have a xj750 seca 81. The smoke seems to come from my engine. Could it be burning the oil that's on my engine? The plugs, ill get a picture of that but last time I took out my plugs, it was dry and with aw hint of brownn black at the tip.

What I meant by it being a fog machine, it literally looked like the whole bike just went up in smokes. I ran away from my bike because I thought it was gonna blow!lol

Haha I always thought disco was their version of trance or electro music.

There's no dripping at all on the pipes, the bike, seriosly looked like smoke was being released from the surrounding engine.

The oil around the caps look smudgey. But o check the oil window and there's no leaks, or so it seems. My bikes weird!

it doesn't take much oil to make a lot of smoke, white smoke is pure white and comes from anti-freeze and it stinks like anti-freeze
if it's not coming from outside the engine you might have bad valve stem seals, but that should come out the mufflers, especially when you start it

Man I just rode down to hollywood the other day and my bike won't start! I thought it was a carb flooding and so my sister picked me up and dropped me off the next morning so I can start my bike and I left the choke on whn I started it and dammit I think I flooded my bike again! Lol dammit I'm stranded lol

Eightyeinstein, my curiosity is piqued as to exactly what color the smoke is and what it smells like. I'm inclined to believe you are suffering with oil burn off from the engine but from the sounds of it, it is much more than even a leaking valve cover gasket. You might have oil dripping onto the exhaust down tubes but even that wouldn't give off billows of smoke. I'm stumped (and about 45min-1hr north of you). If you get really stuck, I could be persuaded to pop by. I've not ridden in months and need to blow the cobwebs out.

When you have a Bike start smoking:

    Do a Compression Check.
    Fully charged battery.
    Throttles wide open
    All the Plugs out.

    Look in the Airbox; too.
See what you got on the Shelf inside the Filter.

How often do you have to put Oil in the Bike?

Eighty, I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I didn't get to the computer until this morning. I expect we could get together weekend of the 10th of July. Somewhere around the 405? Burbank?
And I know who my father is thanks.
You too could own a 750, I need to lighten the load.
