I decided to paint my instrument buckets. is sanding the chrome enough or is sand blasting needed?

Depending on how bad it is...

For very bad chrome, wetsand with 800, then 1500, then 2000, then polish.

For not-as-bad chrome, wetsand with 1200, 1500, 2000, then polish. Voila!

Edit: Just realized you want to paint over your chrome. In that case, not sure. Rough it up real good?

I read a few googled sites.
    Sanding and other typical prep.
    Most recommended metal etching primer.
    Then temp appropriate paint.

well the chrome is mint, no high temp needed cause it's for the gauge buckets. A metal etching primer ey? guess I have to check the store for that, hopefully it comes in aerosol

Hey I'm no expert... Wait for those responses or google painting chrome.

And yes it comes in aerosol - I saw it at Menards recently

scratch the shine off of it with sandpaper and use the metal etching primer then the paint of your choice.

I did to my fenders as some of the Chrome was pitted a bit and the paint was good for a rattle can job.
