Does anyone know the trouble in titling a bike in the US that came from Canada and has no title. Someone locally is selling Maxim for a ridiculous price ($50) but has the above title issues.

If you're in Michigan they won't know the difference. Just apply for a new title.

For $50... you could forget the title and part it out at an awesome profit.

Of course the better thing to do would be to get the title and restore it. :)

Here in Georgia they don't require titles for bikes made before 1988 or something like that... definitely not for my '82. Just a bill of sale required to register.

Then you could "buy" it and when you get the registration/title/whatever y'all have down there, you could "sell" it to jnkmn.

Personally, for 50 bucks, I'd buy it regardless and swap parts to a good titled frame....or else part it out.

Dave.........and people wonder why I have so many bikes

It would cost you more in Illinois to title it than buy it. I am fairly sure all they do here is run the VIN to see if it is reported stolen or not. I remember when I bought mine last fall I had a bad "feeling" about mine and I joked to the clerk that "I guess now is when we find out if it's stolen or not"...he smiled and said "Yes we will". Bill of sale and I'm not sure what kind of trouble, if any, you will have crossing the border with it. Good luck because for $50 I wouldn't pass it up either.
