This weekend I installed an inline fuel filter that I got from chacal. It's pretty much perfectly horizontal. It seems to be 80% air, with just a bit of fuel flowing through... but the bike runs great, there was no change in performance and I've ridden 120 miles with it on through plenty of twists and turns with no sign of stumbling. Do I need to be worried about the air?

personally i wouldnt worry about it especially if its running ok. its because its horizontal if you could get it vertical they would eventually disperce

you have the possibility of getting an 'air lock' in there with it horizontal. they were designed to be vertical. maybe you can swap the tubing on each side to get it horizontal or just buy 1 ft and cut new pieces. I realized they're hard to get veritcal in our bikes but it Is possible. but cutlass is right, if it aint broke, dont fix it. just wanted to let you know of the possibility

Is there a safe way to buy a foot of fuel line and extend my current lines with some sort of union? I didn't buy any hose and there didn't seem to be any way to make it vertical without extending/replacing the hose going to the carbs.

yeah sure there are unions but as a permanant fix Replace the peice. I would point that thing right out if I were looking at your bike lol. personal preference. you can find an assortment of unions at your local auto parts store for a few bucks. But while you're there just pick up new tubing and do it right bud

*sigh* I guess I'll do it right. You don't understand, rubber hoses are the bane of my existence. I can't seem to remove one without bleeding all over it first. And that one connects deep inside a cavern of sharp metal surfaces.

i don't think its possible to have all the air out. the main thing is fuel flowing. that's all that counts.

If the thing was totally full of gas that would be a problem too. If there is fuel in it and your bike runs, the filter and the bike are working fine. Don't change anything unless you're into fixing stuff that isn't broken.
