So, I've started to appreciate the looks of my seca 750 less and less, I was going to go to a bike night once, but I decided not to because of how my bike looked.. with my mis-matched paint and big squares all over... so I went out, inspected the frame on my cb750 and the frame on my seca ... they look very similar. and today, i managed to fab the cb750 tank onto my seca 750 what my tank looks like can be seen here

    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=1 ... t=105.html

so, i'm basically taking everything off my cb750 build and jibba jabbin it onto my bike... the side covers flow awesome with the lines on the frame.. are about 1/4 of an inch away from my shock mount, perfect, I dont know about my front fender... I may run without it.. i'm putting drag bars on it, bullet lights, a 4-1, and when I get to college I'm putting my tailgunner exhaust that i'm hiding on my bike.. as well as my hypercharger... i'm going bare minimum I think...it will take too long to describ what I'm doing but it wont be that hard, you'll see.. pics to come and if you want, i'll describe the process of fitting a cb750 tank onto an xj..

one question- do the coils have to be grounded to the frame- like did the mounts act as a ground? I know two wires are gounded to the frame through the mounts... but i tested my bike out and it fire up with the coils just hangine... but it didnt run long because there's no tank.. please let me know- i have to take it into mind when I re mount my coils..

whatchya doing with your Seca tank?
or more to the point... how much you want for your seca tank? any other 750RH coming off and looking for a home? Atari maybe? headlight bucket?

I know, I know... "take it to 4sale" I just hate seeing good parts not finding a home that DOES love them.

    Re: Schooter's LOL WHAT? build

the seca 750 tank isnt perfect- some small quarter sized dents that I bondo'd and then after painting it... i niteced some smaller dents... it's painted with grey that is kinda close to stock.

but I'm getting rid of the atari unit with 1964 miles on it... though i may have it up to make a nice little shroud for my gps...

there are lots of pieces i have taken off, my right side cover is in great condition... but I'm thuinking about keeping it and sitting on it...

i was gonna take some pics of it but my sister took our only working camera to FFa camp... but you guys wont believe this was ever a seca 750...

ok guys, after being cameraless for 2 weeks, what do you know? MY bike is DONE... well sorta, here is a before pic:

and the GLORIOUS after pics... it's kind of amazing how much you can get done when you dont have to paint or wait for parts...

yes, the seat is just sitting on there and i've been riding like that, i'll attach it soon...

I still have to put budweiser cap in for frame plugs and on the riser bottom bar

for the future, a 4-1 exhaust is coming... with a Tail Gunner exhaust, have any of you heard of that? here's a pic:

I have one hiding in my basement, because my parents say im a broke college kid and dont have the money to spend.. well I bought one while at college, they're 500 new and i got mine for a clean 100.. and mine is like new.. they have an impeller and spin as exhaust flows through them..

also hiding in the basement is a Kuryakyn Hyper charger waiting to go on..

    as can be seen here:

the butterflys open and close with the throttle via a vacuum tube...

thanks guy, I hope to not be a stain n the pavement and stick around here for awhile... lemme know what you think and hit me up with some q's if you have 'em

Now, I like that. Very tidy. Very old school. Where did you get the chrome inserts in the side panel? And the exhaust?

And finally, what does the hypercharger do except open and close with the throttle? LoL

Are you allowed to tear around those fields with your bike? I've always had a desire to plow through a cornfield on mine, with nothing but goggles, jeans and a leather jacket. Very clean bikes.

the chrome insert are just cheap plastic chrome things and i cut a hole in the cover and jb welded them on. i plan on putting red LED's and have them glow at night around that area...

    BUT

on her maiden voyage some old gaffer drove his truck out to get his mail and turned out in front of me, so i put it in the ditch and had my dad trailer her home...

the thing that gets me is my dad found it necessary to yell at me for riding in dirty jeans and not having mufflers, thats what pissed me off.

    the damage goes as so-

shifter is messed up, small dent in the tank where the triple tree hit, which makes me think some damage was done to the frame if it went that far, so my forks may be messed up, one of my bullet lights is missing, and my leg kept the paint fine...

schooter, i hate to kick a guy when he's down but what the hell
you think there's any chance that could have been avoided if you had real controls ? like maybe stop the power to the wheel or did you try to stop with one hand on the bars ?
that old gaffer did you a favor, it could have been a hillbilly in a 18 wheeler on the interstate
there's a reason they call those suicide shifters, you found out the hard way
by the way that's a real nice looking bike, fix it

ya, i know i could have been in a better situation without it, and it's been a handful of headaches getting the cables right... so i'm probably going back to a normal setup.....

Schooter, after many years of technological advances the foot controlled gear shift & the hand opperated clutch were developed, you have single handedly taken us back a 100 years. Your recent experiences will confirm why these refinements were made. Wiz.........

No way, keep it old school. Suicide shifter is the way to go. Just keep in mind that it was aptly named and cruise slow :)

Good to hear you're alright and got something out of it.

    Mend up quickly, then,
get rid of that jockey shift - hand clutch , ya nut !!

Leave that to the bar-hoppin' posers. You need control of your bike.
You've had Bill's rememberance in your signature for the past year.
You need to put your safety first ! ( and that was a great looking build !)

Schoot, if YOU want a suicide shift on YOUR bike then by all means YOU should have what YOU want on YOUR bike. We modify bikes to suit out liking. It is after all a personal choice. Some people chose to smoke. Some chose to drink. Some chose to eat too much red meat. Some people ride with no helmet. Nobody is getting out of life alive. Might as well enjoy it while you can and do what YOU want to do.
Nice looking bike, BTW. Hope you get her back on the road soon. How did the suicide shift work? Those tap handles are pretty heavy. It didn't pop out of gear did it?

Thats what I was wondering dwcopple, but i didnt know what the prize was, they just said a reminder to text in for the best and worst of the summer, so i did, and jay called me... but i dont think im gonna go, as caseville is just as big and i can walk around messed up...

16oz bud- it actually was pretty balanced, and when you were goind at speed, the wind blew it back against my leg, where is may have actually downshifted

    Schooter,

Glad to hear you are o.k. and it wasn't worse. The xj forums doesn't need to loose a rider.

It's a cool looking bike with the suicide shifter, but unfortunately the way people drive today it's just an unnecessary risk factor.

I was young, dumb full of piss and vinegar in my younger days. Now I'm just, well an old fart. At least your still around to have the chance to get old and someday look back on this and laugh.

Regarding being pissed about your Dad yelling about dirty jeans and loud mufflers, sometimes Dads don't show how they really feel. Your Dad doesn't want to see anything happen to you. The first reaction with most fathers I know is, "What the hell is wrong with you." Probably most parents, some parents think it but don't say it, others just blurt it out.

Just be thankful he was there when you needed him, that says volumes.

    Would anyone like a tissue?

LoL.. My wife yells at me when other people cut me up on the road.. It's really just her way of saying "I'm scared"

Maybe it is Schoot's bike, but once in a while it don't hurt to say "That's a bad idea"

People smoke.. People tell them it's a bad idea.
People drink too much.. People tell them it's a bad idea.
People ride with no helmet.. People tell them it's a bad idea.
People put suicide shifters on their bikes.. People tell them it's a bad idea.

BUT... It's not illegal (No helmet in Switzerland is, by the way)

Fact is, if nobody said "It's a bad idea" maybe you wouldn't know. Like smoking or drinking too much. It IS your choice, but that choice needs to be an informed choice.

Personally I wouldn't want a suicide shifter, but if you want one, just realise why they call it that and take a bit of extra care..

Now take a deep breath and say "yes mum" LoL..

Schooter, Glad your ok and the damage was not total.
That being said I have to say that of all the diff builds I've
seen on this site I think I am most impressed with how the
    lines turned out on yours.
If any of the major manufactures get a glimps of this baby
you can bet they would be ripping your design right out from
under you-without the "kill me now" shifter LOL.

ok guys after lots of head scratching i tried to do this as cheaply as possible, but i ended up spending money on cover ups, since the crash took out one of my taillights and the other one was broken, i took the sockets out and threw in 1157 bulbs, and built a raised tail light from the front fender, paid tHe local steel company to cut the front fender with a band saw to not hurt the paint, then im using this cheesy chrome trim to cover up all the mistakes, and the clear coat is starting to peel, and i used some tape to hold onthe front fender to make sure where i anted it, and when i peeled the tape off, it lifted some of the clear coat DOH!

gotta find a sticker or something to cover it... anyways heres pics

also, have on a cb750 front MC and splitter brakes bled, pretty much just waiting on a clutch cable, trying to find some plug caps cuz i dont have enough money in my paypal for chacel, lol yep

    i basically copied cheesy's bike:

    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=7 ... rt=60.html

I could have done it better if i didnt have to worry about scratching the paint and whatnot, as mine is just bolted on, but it works, I: just hope the 2 1157 bulbs wont melt the snot out of my paint
