My bike has been sitting for a week now and I finally got it started by rolling it and poping it into first after I got it warmed up it ran smooth but when I turn it off the electric start wont start it again, it sounds like it wants to turn over but it wont. Does anyone have an idea????

Sounds like a typical bad battery to me.

new battery did the trick. Starts right up, will the battery charge its sell if I run the bike at high rpms? Thats what I was told when I was handed the battery at the store. Is that true?

If your bike is one of the XJs, it'll have no problem charging the battery. These bikes don't have wimpy alternators...they tend to overcharge their batteries if things aren't right. Normal riding will quickly charge it- no need to buzz it up any higher than normal.

Although it's too late to do so now, always try to initialize a new battery by bench-charging it overnight at a low rate before installing it.

If you don't have a Battery Tender of some sort, as Santa for one. It will pay for itself.
