The cop called it a "no points speeding ticket."

    61 in a 50. Maybe a little "slice-n-dice" in the mix.

Couldn't read WTF he had scrawled on it; went to pay it, guess what it was?

IMPEDING. (No points for holding up traffic, of course.) Just the $155.00, please.

Cop on a sparkly new 2010 Harley that he hates, loves his '98 Gold Wing.

    Impeding. 11 over. Whatta guy.

    (I was on the '81.)

cops here write tickets into a handheld computer with a stylus, it prints out in a little receipt printer. last speeding ticket i got was all written in chinese, not chicken scratch, chinese characters. went to see how much it was for since it didnt say, was told i have to wait a month before they can process and tell me how much. it was for almost $400. paid a lawyer $50 to have it reduced to a parking ticket, when i got the parking ticket it was still $210. looked at it, laughed, threw it away, didn't pay it.

here in ct you can get a ticket for "travelling fast" or if you are faster than fast, then you get a "speeding" ticket.

i got a parking ticket for not putting a quarter in the machine. 6 months later the constable came to arrest me or pay the $140 ticket. all for a quarter.

out here its speeding anything 5 and over. most states are usually like that. now if you're 76 in a 75 zone. NO LEEWAY.

Have to watch those "Red Light Cameras" around here. $90 bucks if your tire breaks the plane of the white line or if you are not at least half way across the white line when the yellow turns red. All are treated like a parking ticket but the cheapest one I have heard so far was my sister-in-laws for $90. Have heard them going upwards of $250. Bottom line is this is all for generating revenue and not "Protecting the Public". Maybe if the government wasn't trying to tax and take everything we made we could spend a little bit and put a small breath into our lifeless economy. OK I'll stop ranting...Bum break on the ticket and thanks for the heads up!

I found it interesting that running 11 over was IMPEDING anything.

    Nice loophole.

Here in Ontario Canada if you go over the speed limit by 20km is speeding. But then I can travel 300km here and not see a cop on our main highways and it nothing to see vehiles regularly pass you and make you feel you are standing still at 20 over.

Remember when we had the 55MPH Federally imposed speed limit? Supposedly going 70 in a 55 was some sort of violation other than speeding with 0 points (I never tested it). Above 70 was speeding and had points.

North Carolina is somewhere inbetween. Eleven miles/hr over the limits seems to be the magic number. Eleven or less, it's still a ticket and fine, but no insurance points. Greater than eleven you either have to plead it down or suffer the fine and insurance hit.

    Fitz,
I guess they kinda got you. They know you won't go into court and ask how it could be impeding if you are 11 over!

On the highways here in Oklahoma, it's usually "Nine - you're fine, ten - you're mine", unless you run into a top grade a-hole super trooper. On the other hand, we have a few famous speed traps (like Hulbert). You can get tagged for taking off too fast from a stop light there.

I got pulled over in my home town for doing 50 in a 35 a few months back. The cop huffed and puffed a bit, went to his truck, came back, and said "This is a $275 ticket, but I'm gonna give you a verbal warning. don't let me catch you again".

    "YES SIR! THANK YOU SIR!"

On Long Island, they started installing red light cameras around the most notorious intersections. Not the most dangerous, but the most Profitable.

Red light cameras aren't anything special, but these ones are. They ticket you for making a right on red without coming to a complete stop.

I couldn't understand the technology of how they worked until I found out the feeds are manned by an Arizona based company with the misleading name New York Red Light Camera.

They are kind enough to provide you with a picture of you on your ticket, plus a video of your action on their website.

There isn't an intersection that has the set up that isn't flashing like a thunderstorm every 5 seconds (not an exageration)

When is a Speeding Ticket NOT a Speeding Ticket?...When a cop hands it out. You can normally get away with a telling off.

Cameras, however, (bless the Dutch - for they developed the GATSO cameras) are a different story. Simply installed to make money, the first thing they do when carrying out road repairs is setup temporary speed cameras.

This is SUPPOSED to make sure road workers are not injured by speeding cars - but what happens on a Sunday? Do they turn the cameras off...? NO!

In Arizona we have this "Waste of finite resources" ticket. Rather than getting a speeding ticket, if the cop is in a good mood, you will get this. When I got one, i was going 75 in a 55 in my 76 Firebird Formula. The ticket is only like 35 dollars, so I cant say I minded too much, especially since it is technically "criminal" speeding. Not bad for a run in with Arizona DPS though.

get a lawyer in traffic court with ya... a speeding ticket will quickly turn into some non-moving ordinance violation... no points and double the fine. Haha... But dented bank account is better, by far, than 6 points for "Speeding-Major"

I personally have little sympathy for people who run red lights. The more cameras the better. Not to say it doesn't make me uneasy, but my studies in jurisprudence have convinced me that of all laws, traffic laws are easily the most just. What's the point of having unenforceable laws?

That assumes that the traffic engineers did their jobs correctly, though. If your intersection garners a lot of red-light runners, maybe it's your intersection, not peoples lack of respect for the law.

I should be a traffic engineer, how do you become one...anybody know?

I always travel 9 over, when the distance is more than 30 miles. Any less and the time savings is miniscule. Do the math, the speeding most people do adds seconds, not minutes to your day. Most of which you burn listening to your favorite song on the radio once you get there. Or disappearing in the cloud of traffic later.

And think of stoplights as the speeder's great roadblock. I love passing up people who sped past me at stoplights, especially when I slow down early to conserve momentum then....ZOOM... right by their stopped car.

    yeah...i'm that jerk

15 miles at 70 mph, 12.9 minutes...at 79 mph, 11.4 minutes...you took that much time trying to decide if you wanted CornPops or CocoaPuffs this morning.

Here's another thought: all that speeding, aggressive driving, and exposing oneself to fines just to save time is canceled out when you hit a red light. I can't count how many times I've been passed by a lane weaving speeder just to pull up behind him at the next light. It doesn't seem worth it.

In my experience I've found that the only way speeding really saves time is on long interstate trips with a full tank.

I wasn't reallly speeding, everyone runs 10 over, I was doing 11 over but I was IMPEDING. (Traffic I assume.) Although exactly how escapes me, at least I wasn't SPEEDING. Coulda got points for that...
