Ten minutes into my ride in to work tonight a deer jumped out of the tree line about 100 feet ahead of me and made the mad dash for the other side!
65mph on a 4 lane with an SUV pacing me in the left lane. I decided to down shift and goose it rather than trying to slow enough to miss her. It was the right choice... this time.

I was sure she was going to T-Bone me but I just felt a slight inpact and didn't lose the rear end. When I got to work, the right rear turn signal was busted off and hanging by the wires and my license plate and mounting bracket were bent slightly. No blood or fur so I assume she wasn't injured too badly either.

After a changing my skivvies, I decided it was sign that I should go ahead and order the LED turn signals that I've eyeballing on fleabay...

That's sounds like a very close call! You felt the deer but didn't go down? Count your blessings mate, glad you're ok!

That's why I put Deer Whistles on my bike just under the lower triple tree. I don't know how well those things work but I figured (what's 5 bucks?).

Last fall I saw one pull up short just out of the corner of my eye, and like you, knee-jerk reaction was to crack the throttle. I saw her/it drop down to all fours again right behind me and charge off to the right and up the bank. Never contacted, but had to stop to clean out the underwear.

First day ever out on the bike a number of years ago, had a canadian goose fly into my handlebars. Didn't go down, but scared me pretty good. Kept on riding home.

Wow, glad to hear your ok! 8O

About 5 years ago a buddy of mine hit a deer head on that killed the deer, but even worse he got thrown over the handlebars and slid down the road.

Thankfully his leather jacket took most of the carnage with only a few rocks embedded in his hands.
