    Hey Guys,
One of these went up for sale here now, an 81, good price, needs an inspection, from the pics looks in great shape...... well be able to tell the rest once I get a look. Other than the colors scheme I assume these are the same as any other Max 650?

Still may hear from the Seca 900 guy as well as I discovered when responding to this ad that I had typo-ed my email address last time...... *facepalm*
    So I messaged him back......

Still waiting to hear back on the 900 Rick, just caught my error tonight when I responded to the 650 ad (addy was saved by the browser, noticed a letter missing.....sigh..... hoping to hear back)

As for the 650... without seeing,
battery may be weak or just needs a good charge (plan to take a meter to check the charging system)
hard to start cold --- smelling a long over due carb cleaning
clutch safety switch doesn't work --- easy enough
start button worn , doesn't always work --- again easy clean/replace
    speedo bulb is burnt out

Will see what else is up when I get a good boo at it, hopefully tonight or tomorrow then he's away for the weekend, Maybe I can get a look at that 900 on the weekend.... fingers crossed....

OK gave it a quick look over.....

Cold start issue.... thinking the 4 into 1 combo with the Pods are not helping
Overall condition, not bad, some sketchy re-painting that needs fixing, but mostly minor cosmetic stuff.....
Took it for a test ride.... remind me to take a tire gauge next time.... holy under inflated tires batman...... tranny smooth, engine sounds good..... tires are worn but not dead, new set would help a lot..... bars were like mini apes, not a big fan there much higher than my stock buck horns and I'm looking for a lower profile set for the 400 ..
One red flag was a slight oil leak in the front, either from or near the tach cable connection... anyone got a theory there? Also headers are corroded some but not horribly, good old east coast salt and moisture.....

It does have a new clutch plates and brake pads

Sooo it needs New Tires, stock airbox, some minor switch/bulb replacing, and bar replacement on top of all the items from the basic XJ checklist we know and love :)

Must say the old I4's sound so much nicer than the new super high revvy ones :)

"worn out start button" that may not be the case, for me, it was the solenoid starting to go, it wouldnt start and had no spark and no juice going anywhere...

as long as the oil isnt coming out from the engine, besides the oil filter cover or the valve cover gasket, I wouldn't worry

Well. they apparently replaced whole control assembly so I'm thinking not a great job.... most likely the swtich/wiring .... There are some bits that come with it as well, never thought to ask if the old airbox was there....

As for that oil leak, couldn't tell exactly where it was coming from, would need a bit of time after a run to source it......

Didn't get a big warm fuzzy "gotta have it" feeling, but the tires being low may have had a lot to do with that..... potential is there for a good restore though with some work. There were a few noises during the warm up that had me listening close, but it went away as it warmed up...
loud tick and such, but I'm thinking it's running pretty dam lean with the pods on there......

My 400 seemed extra light and agile on the trip home though lol
