1. Some members were not receiving emails sent from XJbikes.com. For example: "Forgot your password?" function to reset your password would not send email to some members. I believe this has been resolved now. Please use "Contact Us" form (see page footer link) if you still have email issues. SnoSheriff

is it just me or are more people using this site to flog their stuff that is not motorcycle related.
we now have people selling anything from shoes to electronic gadgets and or other sorts of paraphernalia that are not even closely related to bikes.
if i want anything like that then i will go shopping at the appropiate store or take a wander through ebay or similar sites.
i understand trying to make a buck but do it in the correct place NOT HERE

Unfortunately, that's just a part of life on the internet. It's as if you're having a conversation with your friends and someone comes up and asks if you'd like to buy a genuine Roll-X Watch. You either ignore them or hit them repeatedly. Since you can't violently attack people or computers on the internet (excepting you crazy hacker types) you have moderators you can rely on to forcefully escort these hucksters off the premises. In the meantime don't sweat the small stuff... if anything it's a testament to how successful this forum is that people are trying to spam it.

I try to keep the Garden weed-free.

There's more of them than I can keep track of.

It's spam. They're not even human, let alone proper members of the site. Adding a CAPTCHA feature to the registration process might curb these faux-users.

You'd think that, but spammers are pretty darn good at what they do and even captchas can't keep a lot of them out.

What I had done on my yahoo group was to moderate all of the new posts until I was personally sure they were not spammers. Since the first post of a spammer is usually pretty obvious I was able to weed them out pretty quickly without the members even knowing it was happening. The downside is that if I'm feeling lazy it can be a hassle to the actual new members. I'm not sure if that's even an option with this forum software but it's a thought.

I run the forums for our STAR Touring chapter. I was getting hundreds of bogus registrations a week. I eventually got rid of most of them by blocking every IP address outside the U.S.

Eventually I turned off self registration all together. Now when we get new chapter members one of the moderators puts them in.

It's amazing we don't get more here. The staff is doing an excellent job.
