Hey guys, I've found an 83 Seca900 selling locally....
Waiting to hear back, but I definitely want to go check it out.
Say it needs some TLC ... heh, that could mean almost anything.

Outside of the normal things, anything in particular I should keep an eye out for on the 900?

Rust in the back end of the gas tank.
    Starter clutch.
Take a screwdriver with you & see if the carb drain screws move easy, this is a good indication of maintainance.

Cracked rear frame loop is very common.....where frame tube comes up to meet frame loop at rear of seat (near triangular bracket)

OK, finally got in touch with the guy with the 900, hopefully going out to have a look at it tomorrow.... funny, his name ins Len :)

Found out a few things, hasn't run in about 6 years, was running when replaced by the FJ 1200, take was sealed, had a small hole in said position in tank, was fixed, but cam back...
He has a shop manual and extra headers as well , 4 into 2 and a 4 into 1, and spare muffler.... not sure which is installed at this point

So I'll have a peek at the rest and see what she looks like overall, If it looks hopeful, thinking a lot of people will pass her up, I can fix up my old scoot and sell her off then make a lower offer, Then start clearing out the shed to make room for a big project, hopefully have her road worthy for the spring.

Hehe, I got a look at the 900 tonight, .... definitely a project, but looks salvageable, The fuse box is shot, would be replaced by blades anyways... way worse than my Max had, one holder was completely gone.

Should be able to get it cheaper than asking, will probably need to give him a weeks notice just to get the stuff out of the way in his basement to get her out.

Carbs will need work for sure, choke tubes are not moving atm.....
overall looks pretty sound, 4 into 1 seems to have a lot of corrosion on the collector, but the 4 into 2 looks pretty good, ....

Time to get to work on my old Honda scoot so I can sell it to raise the funds... While the baby Max is running I can take the time to get something like that restored properly...

I was considering the Max X as well.... but I love the lines of the Seca 750/900 's

I would think you could get it for less. For comparison's sake, I picked up my 900 for $450 and all it really needed was a carb clean and synch to get it running nice. How are the tires?

I'll send the guy a low-ball offer to get him thinking about lowering the price. ;-)

Sweet deal you got there, ... If you've been browsing the Kijiji ads down here you get a feel for the inflated prices, sometimes you can score an ultra cheap deal, but usually few and far between ...

Tires, will need new, would be good enough for a few test runs, but that's about it, some wear left, but just age alone.......

I think after a carb clean and such she'd be operational, then it's just a matter of completing the XJ check list and some cosmetic work...

It's a white, with the red and blue stripes, stripes are really faded so a new color scheme may be in order.. A friend is an autobody guy, so I can probably get a good deal of a proper spray job....

Trying not to get to far ahead of my thinking, still need to raise the cash in hand

I exchanged a few emails wth him. I think he might be ready to look favourably at a more reasonable offer than his asking price. ;-)

Oh yeah... He says he has a new front tire and a spare rear, but no indication of how old they are. Check the manufacture dates!
