OK, so the pilot controls air, and fuel, and somehow by controling airflow it adds fuel or something or other or whatever... I've stopped trying to figure it out.

Anyway... all four are 2.5 turns out from bottomed. The pilot jets are 195's instead of 205's. I don't know why, it's a stock exhaust and intake. maybe the manual that says 205 as spec is not for the Seca. I don't know. I also have no idea how much that messes with where to start on turns out to get close.

so here's how things are going:

    1st:

Started almost immediately, ran so-so for a while and then started skipping and popping and the like. I thought it had been running lean but pilot mixture adjustment did nothing so I pulled the carbs and recleaned the pilot circuits. Everything is squeaky clean.

    2nd:

No start... cleaned the plugs and it fired immediately, ran so-so for a little while and then went to popping and no idle again.

    Now:

Pulled the plugs and they're sooty and black, just like when I had the no-start after the last go-round. I must be running rich, not lean. Right?

So which way do I turn the screws to lean out the mixture so I can stop fouling plugs?

I'm sorry to ask such a simple question, but I've been at this for so long I no longer have any faith in my own understanding of the situation.

    Thanks.

Simple answer to make them more lean:
    Turn them in/down/clockwise

The rest I have no idea.

the pilots should be around 40 and the mains around 200, the mains go in the tallest post in the center of the carb with the emulsion tube under it

it's the pilot air jet that is the 195 instead of 205. all other jets are what the manual indicates is correct.

if your plugs are black your definitely running rich, your exhaust probably stinks.

Just like metal bob said turning the mixture screws in leans the fuel/air mixture. start at 2.5 turns out. Also, did you bench synch carbs?
