Hi gang, need to pick your brains. I'm experiencing poor acceleration taking off from a standing start,. after a second it really kicks in like it should. I'm replacing my boots tomorrow, I cleaned my air filter yesterday and replaced the plugs. Any ideas? I've looked in the search but nothing that deals with this problem exclusively.

well that's your pilot circuit. if the carbs are clean it could be a sync thing. let us know what carb work has been done. 99.9% carb related

Its time for carb cleaning and sync. Pilot circuit and carb slides most likley need attention. Search the site for carb cleaning.

if he's replacing the boots. then i'm guessig they're all cracked. thus sucking in air. VACUUM LEAK.

get the new boots on and go from there. did you get new gaskets too?

oh, wait. you didn't specify if you was putting on intake boots OR air filter box boots.

is it better when you turn the choke on? simply replacing those boots could solve your problem if they are leaking bad enough. can't hurt to clean and sync the carbs though but don't let carb cleaner sit on any of the rubber parts for any length of time, it will melt them!

    cheers,

    Trev

replaced the carb to head boots tonight. Helped a lot, but I think I still need to sync. The carbs were rebuilt last year, and bench synced, but I put a newer engine in afterwards so I believe I need to re-sync. Bike runs so much better, better acceleration on take off, better at speed, great idle, and don't have to choke the hell out of it to start. I'm slowly learning more and more thanks to you guys. I really appreciate the help and I'll let you know how things go as I progress.

Had the same problem. Synched the carbs on the bike and adjusted fuel mixtures and resynched. You wont believe the response difference, it will feel like a new bike.

    Start by adjusting the valves.
