Occasionally my bike will get stuck in neutral, as in at a stoplight (not a good situation to be in). I can't shift up or down, and even stomping on the shift lever doesn't do anything. It feels like the lever is going all the way down, but the transmission isn't responding. Sometimes if i let off the clutch, rev the engine, and then shift it will work. Any ideas on what's going on here?

When you stop at a light with the clutch in the hard parts in the transmission stop spinning. In order to get the shift dogs to engage you must get the trans shafts/gear clusters moving. Let the clutch out fully to get 'er spinning and then pull the clutch back in, shift and go.

Now then, putting your bike in neutral is usually considered a BAD idea. If your bike is in neutral and the moron coming up behind you is reading the paper, shaving, and texting on his cell phone and doesn't stop you are done for. Leaving it in gear at stop lights gives you at least a possible option to keep from getting run over from behind.

Agreed. Helps to rock it forward/backward too.

    +1

Plus, there's nothing more annoying than waiting behind someone trying to get his bike in gear (you're not the only one).

Thanks guys! I usually don't put it in neutral; I think i was resting my left hand or something. Glad to hear this isn't a major transmission issue :)

Along the same lines as the other guys... bike will only get 1 or 2 shifts without rolling the back tire or releasing the clutch for a bit. IF I'm going into neutral, I pull in the clutch and shift down to first as I'm braking. At the stop I toe it up to neutral and let go of clutch. I've always been able to pull in the clutch and then pop it down to first. If you're stopped and trying to shift around it won't work, unlike a manual car.

Adjust the Clutch for Zero Lash.

Don't "Stomp" on the Gear Change Lever.
That will just make the Shift Fork get bent outta-shape and make your Summer miserable.

There a Clutch Adjust Link in my Signature.
