Bike starts and runs fine, go on ride for thirty minutes and it seems to have "dead" spots in throttle and at a light the voltmeter sags to the point the indicators stop blinking. I this a rectifier issue?

    Thanks for any help!

    Probably not.

And it's probably two different things. The throttle response problem is most likely directly carburetor-related; floats or sync--

and unless the carb issue is causing your rpms to drop below proper idle speed (1200rpm) the voltage drop is more likely a need to look at your alternator brushes.

These folks: http://216.168.60.165/speedandsportinc/index.tpl have SOME of the bits, look in the fiche and then see what they might have. Be forewarned, they are aware of the value of NOS parts, don't get sticker shock.

    Fiche: http://www.babbittsonline.com/pages/par ... fault.aspx

Otherwise eBay. I sold my fairing (with brackets) almost immediately after buying the bike. I like 'em "nekkid" (besides, Yamaha themselves called the fairing 'removable' and then did away with it for the '83 MY.)

First off, you need to closely examine the alternator brush leads to ensure they are not corroded INSIDE. The little fine braids of wire can and will corrode from the inside; they might look OK but be nothing but green dust on the inside.

The next thing to check would be of course the fusebox; but then the big connector to the regulator/rectifier (the huge heatsink on the battery retainer piece.) Unplug it and inspect both sides' contacts for signs of corrosion.

Also check your battery cables, connectors, and all the connections on the starter solenoid.

I still think you have two problems, something electrical but fuel delivery as well. Will the bike idle at the prescribed 1200rpm?
