I recently bought a fixer and need a set of upper fork tubes. I am on a tight budget these days and am looking for the fork tubes and a couple of other small parts, CDI box, headlamp and assy etc. Any help would be appreciated. I have heard there are alternate uppers from other models that might work and might be more available since the 83,s seem to be hard to come by. Thanks

Re: 1983 Maxim Midnight, need upper fork tubes, mine are ben

I found out so far that the 1983 750 maxim and Maxim Midnight are specific model and one year only so therefore very hard to locate used ones. also Yamaha doesn't sell them OEM anymore. I may have to bite the bullet and buy new w from forks by Frank. I do have a clue from my mechanic friend who gave me a partial vin#JYA-22R-2310 that indicates the correct Maxim model for the forks I need for anyone else who might have some. Thanks for your reply.

Have you looked into getting the tubes professionally straightened at an engineering company?

To the best of my knowledge, the only thing that is different on a Midnight Maxim and a regular Maxim is that the chrome is black instead, and the wheels (and a very few other select parts) are gold in color instead of black (or chrome).

Any used set of XJ750 maxim (and I believe XJ750 seca) forks will work for you. You will want to take them apart and swap the lower forks since your's should be black, and most likely the set you get will be shiney-ish aluminum. You can't use the the ones from a 650 because those only have one disc brake. Your's should have two.

Don't go buy new, or OEM. Someone here will have the parts, and if not (and I'd find that hard to believe) then you'll be able to find them pretty easily on eBay.

1982 and 1983 XJ750 Maxim upper (inner/chrome) fork tubes are actually different from each other, and, the 750 Seca fork tubes are in a class by themselves, too.

The 1982 and 1983 XJ750 Maxim complete fork SYSTEMS are interchangable; the 1982 versions had a goofy pressure adjuster system that the 1983 models did not use. I wuld not be inclined to swap a 750 Seca fork system into a 750 Maxim frame (or vice versa); it may or maybe fit or operate properly.

We do have the correct 1983 versions Maxim/Midnight Maxim upper (inner/chrome) tubes available.

I didn't realize the seca tube was completely different. As far as the 82/83 difference....is that because the later ones have the schraeder valve? I would have expected the top inserts to be the only difference. My bad.
