Started my bike up yesterday and everything seemed fine. Started riding it, but as soon as I took it over 4000rpm, the oil light came on. Then sometimes it would go off, then back on again. For example, one time I let off the throttle and the oil light went off. This did not happen every time tho, and it always came back on afterwards.

Bike seemed to ride fine, and I checked the oil level and that seemed fine as well. Any ideas?

The bike in question is an 89' Radian YX600, which I believe shares the same basic engine design as an XJ

I have to keep by oil level slightly higher that recommended to keep the oil light from blinking. I put the bike on the center stand (with the bike running) and fill the oil to the top of the sight gauge. That should slove your problem.

I have to do the same on mine and keep the oil level a tad higher than normal.

When I change the oil and put in the recommended 2.5 bottles, the oil light comes on when the bike is on the side-kickstand, and turns off when I stand it up straight. Haven't had an instance yet where the light comes on when riding, though.

i agree with the others, the oil needs to be topped up so that the level shows at the top of the oil window (when bike is level on the center stand).

    cheers,
