high idle

i have an 83 xj750 and when it gets warm it likes to idle about 3 to 4 grand but when it is cold it idles fine someone told me that it is the rubber intake manifolds someone please help i really like this bike it is fast and solid

When is the last time the Carbs were Cleaned?

 

Sure sounds like you are getting some unwanted air, check carb boots, throttle seals & vac' port caps.

 

Think u heard about the starter fluid test, right ?

Keep the throttle so it idles around 2k, or, in ur case closer to 3k, spray the ruppers on all sides and see if that makes any changes in revs. If so, u got a leak. Use a smaller nossle to try to pinpoint where.

To fix, well, gorillaglue is what i would use, but there is probably better ways.

If it aint there, you could have jetting issues, i got this link recomended, might not hurt to take a look.

Just a quick thought too. You should set the idle when the bike is warm (HOT), not cold. Your bike shouldn't idle correctly without choke when it's first started cold.

So it could be just a tweak of the idle screw and your done.
