I know of a dealer who has a wrecked Turbo bike that I would like the turbo/et al off of. Forks are screwed and possibly the frame as well. I'm interested in either purchasing the entire bike or just carbs/turbo/ignition/fuel regulator/fuel pump/manifolds/headers/knock detector/boost guage etc for another project. Could anyone please give me a rough idea what the entire bike would be worth as it sits, wrecked(with a title), but otherwise in good shape, stored indoors, and also how much just the turbo and all associated parts would be worth?

We're trying to come to an agreement on its value and I need a starting point.

Many thanks to anyone who can help.

Welcome to you Puchorella, you ask a very good question. We've a few turbo nuts onboard, stay tuned, they will get to you.
    Mac, this is your department.

It's hard to put a value on something, basically supply and demand thing.
How good are the parts in question, how many are available in your neck of the woods, how fast does the seller want to get rid of the stuff (quick sale package deal vs one at a time). How much money do you have to spend or are willing to spend?

Go for the quick sale package deal, he may be wanting xmas spending money!

Have you checked ebay for pricing, I've been seeing quite a bit of turbo parts on there lately.

    Item number: 140061895792
Reconditioned Turbo from 1982 Yamaha Seca XJ 650
Current bid: US $152.50 15 bids
    End time: 13-Dec-06 11:05:00 EST (1 day 9 hours)

Thanks for the reply, however I'm thinking that my finances or the price of a reconditioned turbo on ebay really isn't relevant to the value of a wrecked Seca. A complete, wrecked bike on ebay would be, but I've never seen one.

Its condition is exactly as I described, forks/front wheel are damaged, possibly the frame as well, it has a title, it was running when it was wrecked and has been stored indoors since. The engine is free and has compression. It is a parts bike with paper.

If someone could tell me what they would typically pay for a complete XJ650 turbo parts bike, in the United States, I would appreciate it. I can then figure out the value of the destroyed components and make him an offer. I'm thinking 250-300 for a non-running, titled, complete wrecked bike. Am I far off?

    Thanks

Thank you for the welcome and the reply, I'm in no hurry as the bike has been sitting in his building for quite a few years.

If you decide to part it out I am interested in the fuel pump and might know of someone who is interested in the motor

You will beed the motor also.

It has lower compression. Adding the turbo to your motor will more than likely cause issues.

Like the 3.1 GM?mcClaren turboed Grand prix's. Let use them for for an example.

The TGP is a 3.1 just like other 3.1 GMs of its time. Well except it had a turbo.

Thats all you see to the eye. Upon further findings, you will find its got a hardber block to handle the added boost, along with many better internals.

SO the point it, you could probably toss it on your bike, but it doesnt mean it will last.

If the engine and all turbo associated parts including the exhaust is in good shape, Im thinking 3-400 is what I would give if I just wanted the motor, trans, turbo, exhaust.

If you spent $300 for the bits you want, you'd probably recoup your investment parting out the bodywork and such. Seca turbo bits have been used successfully on other turbo projects. Good luck with whatever you do. I spent $500 for my bike, which was roadworthy, but had high mileage, so $300 should be plenty for one with no front end and a possible wonky frame.

If I buy the entire bike I will keep you/your buddy in mind for the motor.

Thanks for the info, thats something solid I can go off of. I think I'll offer 250 and go from there if necessary.

Clever Lad.. Cuz you have NO way of knowing if the Motor is just a neatly packaged container of trashed bits until.. you open it up and check it for yourself. G'luck.

I could care less if the engine is garbage. As I said in my original post, the fuel system/ignition system/some sensors are wanted for ANOTHER PROJECT. I don't own any XJ bikes and probably never will. Thanks for the extremely clever tip though, I doubt many people have thought of verifying the condition of a possible purchase by viewing it themselves.

For anyone who is interested, I ended up just buying the turbo/exhaust/ignition system/fuel system/sensors for 150 bucks. Thanks for the replies.

What do you plan on putting all of this on?

'79 GS750, 2 valve/roller crank engine. If you guys are interested I'll post pics when the header/manifold fabrication is complete.

Also, the stock turbo will be for sale on ebay at some point in the future. A casual inspection seems to indicate that it was run without oil, but the turbine/housing is in good shape. If there is interest here in the turbo/stock manifolds, let me know and I'll post an update here when the stuff gets listed.

Sounds like an interesting project. Give the guys at the GS Resources a shout. There's a couple of guys over there with turbo GS's, and a a few ex-dragracers. Keep in mind that your roller bearing engine has a low pressure, high volume oil pump, so it will need a turbo that can run with low oil pressure (obviously not the plain bearing Mistsubishi unit from the Seca) but you probably already knew that.
