Hey guys, First time poster long time viewer :)

I searched all over the site and the web looking for how much oil my 1982 xj650j maxim will take. I couldn't find any answers so I figured I would just ask you guys because I'm sure someone has a accurate answer. Thank you very much.

It's stamped next to the fill hole on the engine. 2,500cc's my 81 says. It's a little over 2.5 quarts with a filter change.

Thank you I was wondering what that was about.

So I would just change the comma into a decimal and put that much quarts in there? Or is there a conversion thing online. (Is cc a unit of measurement?)

I just checked mine and it says 2,500cm to the 3rd

Cubic Centimeters - metric unit of volume. There is a conversion. I just know from experiance it's a bit over 2.5 quarts. You want it just below the top of your sight glass on the center stand.

That's like asking the planet which god they believe in.... some right some wrong but everyone's got an opinion....

Personally I use regular castrol 20x50. I've heard rotella T (diesel oil) is good. Anything with friction modifiers is bad for a wet clutch.

2500CCs=2.5 litres, most motorcycle oil is sold in litre bottles not quarts, car oil comes in quarts. Read the label carefully, adjust as needed.

You need the 2500+another 200CC or so to keep your oil level sensor happy.

Proper oil level is ABOVE the marks beside the window, with the bike on the centerstand. You should have a "bubble" showing at the top.

20W40 or 20W50 conventional motorcycle oil is the safest bet. I run Castrol 20W50 or Spectro 20W40, 20W50 in the heat of summer, 20W40 when it gets chilly. Depending on where you live, either one would probably be fine all the time.
