Well I finally got the bike going and I'm looking at helmets to buy. I'm torn between the modular helmets and the full faced helmets. The modulars seem more convient but I've never had one before, and the full faced seem more sturdy and protective. Not sure which way I should go with that. Also any brands that anyone would recommend?
    Thanks in advance!

full face saved my life once.

may look not as 'cool' as others, especially on an XJ. but i rarely ride without one.

I have a pair of HJC SyMaxII modular helmets. Once you've gone modular you'll never go back. The added bonus of the SyMaxII are the fighter pilot shaped sunglasses that are built into the helmet and available on demand.

The convenience of the modular helmet can't be beat. Easy on/off without removing glasses, conversations at drive ups, toll booths, etc.

The ONLY disadvantage is that modular helmets tend to be noisier than full face. Not an issue for me as I generally wear molded earphones.

BTW If I had it to do over I would seriously consider the Nolans.

My 2nd helmet will probably be flip up. I got what I could afford and had LOTS of vents and extra visor and bag. Gmax 68s ($100)

HJC make a line of helmets that are not expensive but yet very high quality; G-Max aren't bad either.

My current helmet is an HJC CL-SP and I'm very happy with it. It's probably the most comfortable helmet I've ever owned, and reasonably quiet. It's a standard full face, well vented, the shield is easily operated with one hand AND stays put in various positions.
