Well.. my beloved bobbed out XJ is no more. I am not good with uploading pictures on here so I provided a link to all my pics of my bike. http://www.facebook.com/#!/album.php?ai ... 588&ref=mf

Hopefully the link will work. Rolling up to a stop sign on the bike and a girl who was high off of Aerosol cans came into my lane and hit me head on in her car. I layed the bike over and tried to get outfrom under it and she was still laying the pedal down pushing the bike and her car on me. I managed to get out from under it and she finally came to a stop.. everyone came and helped me out to see how I was doing and next thing I know.. i look up and the girl takes off dragging my XJ down the road with the front of her car. Cop measured how far she drug it and it was 955 feet before it finally slid out from under the car. She kept on going before she had a seizure from huffing the cans and she rear ended a parked car and totalled out her car. Completely disheartening for me. first bike i have ever owned.. loved it to death and it is toast. she had no insurance on her car. All i had was liability. I think I could possibly fix it and i would love to, but it needs a new motor cuz it grounded and melted the whole side of the motor. You can see from the pics what all I would need to build it back up. Would love to do it... I dont think i am going to get anything from insurance.. give me some enlightening news... haha

    Glad youre ok.
I got rear ended last year by a drunk driver with no insurance totalled my first Cruiser. Had two other bikes after that and I love them just as much.
Keep your head up. You can still get something for her hitting you. Maybe from her parents insurance? if she was young enough. If not a civil court case would also work. Don't let her get away I didn't.

I think you do have grounds for other avenues to recoup some of your loss.

Quick question.....what type of XJ? There's loads of parts around here, and I'm sure you'll be able to find a bike to replace it.

    Also, PM sent.

Yeah.. sucks bad though. I am sure she has nothing since she didnt have insurance. I have a 85 xj700. there are parts everywhere for them, but I am not made of money.. otherwise i would go buy another bike.. haha If i cant get anything from the insurance company I will probably have to go after her in civil court I do believe. That chick was in her 30s.. so no parents gonna pay for that haha. I am gonna do everything I can do get her for what I can because you shouldnt be huffing no air dusters anyways.. Hogfiddles.. I do not have a private message from you in my message box for some reason?

Sorry to hear about that, man...glad you're OK!

I'd encourage you to at least meet with a lawyer, to discuss options (they'll often do a free consult). If the gal didn't have insurance for her car, it's likely she has no other funds to sue from her, but like 1904 mentioned, you could have a civil ruling in your favor, have a garnishment placed on her wages and/or liens placed on any assets she may have, etc. It can get real nasty if you want it to be.

In the future, perhaps consider getting uninsured/underinsured coverage, which would address this situation exactly. Maybe worth asking your insurance guy/gal about...?

I saw the pics of your bike; it was a beauty...and it will be again :)

Holy hell man, glad to hear you're fine. That chick does NOT need to be on the road. Huffing and driving is considered reckless endangerment even if she DIDN'T hit you, and in some places it's automatic jailtime.

That is frightening. What was going through your head as this all happened?? Were you worried about you? You sound like a true rider: "HOW IS MY BIKE?!"

I feel your pain, lost mine due to someone's negligence. Sorry to hear about the accident and the loss of your bike. What size engine. Some of us have engine cases laying around if you want to rebuild her. Pretty much as long as the frame isnt bent, the bike can be rebuilt... Jsut think 6 million dollar man theme :) We can rebuild it!!! As for the person that hit you, why isnt she in jail? Ohh and sue the hell out of her. She needs to be held responsible.

You'll need to keep after her- - if you let it drop, the "legal system" will also.

That was a great looking paint job !

Glad YOU are ok. Don't let her go on this, I pressed charges against a couple juveniles who robbed me in Chicago. Their attorney (public defender) kept trying to make it difficult for me to be there at all the rehearings. I did not flinch and finally saw them do the time. And I pressed hard and succeeded in getting the judge making them get a minimum of C in school or they went back to juvie...

Same for your huffer, she needs help to stop that stupidity and she needs to pay for your damages...

Kudos on getting out as well as you did.

Yeah. bad deal. It melted the whole side cover on the right side off. I need basically a whole block. I dont think the frame is bent. it didnt even get my back fender haha forks maybe a little tweaked, not sure yet with everything all mangled up. Kinda crazy.. I didnt realize how lucky i was til today after i thought about it, but i am not sure there are too many people who can say they walked away from a motorcycle accident basically untouched.. haha I plan to go after her once she gets out of jail.. haha She is still in there from what I hear. The motor is a xj700. like a 696 on hte block i believe. Right off hand I need a motor, speedo, tach plastic cover, turn signals on front, headlight assembly, front fender, gas tank, handlebars, handlebar covers, i think possibly a throttle cable housing. I think thats everything.. I might have to buy the whole instrument panel thing in order to replace the speedo. it smashed the brackets and stuff up on it. I will have to see. Hoping to rebuild her, but will have to see...

You need one of those Lawyers who would sue their own mother.

    The nightmares are intolerable.
Waking up at night, screaming and shaking.
Back ache, neck ache, arm and shoulder aches, foot shakes and your toenails vibrate.
You can't remember your name and don't recognize your children.
Sometimes you forget where you are and where you are going.
    Where am I?
    Why does everything have polka-dots?

Sorry to hear man, I would definetly get a lawyer and go after her. But if your need money for a new bike, part out whats left of yours. I'd be interested in the apes and cables, if they are still good. :)

Despite the attachment you feel to that particular bike, you may end up further ahead price-wise to buy another xj and transfer some of your custom bits over. Looking on fleabay and craigslist, I've found that whole bikes can be had for a couple hundred $ more than an engine alone. Good luck, and I'm glad to hear your not letting the Paris Hiltons/Britney Spears/Lindsay Lohans of the world scare you out of riding.

I am ready to fix it.. haha I appreciate the comments on the bike, I thought it was a perty awesome XJ too, shame people are so stupid. I am not gonna let the haters or the huffers stop me from rebuilding my bike. She going to get what she has coming to her too.. Cant wait for that moment

nice self control though, i would have strangled her with a brake line :/

Boy did she do a number on your bike... I've never seen so much alloy missing off the side of a motor....

I got taken out on my 900 last month... Killed the bike because it bent the frame, thankfully she was insured and they sorted me out

I see some resemblence on the fenders on ebay somewhat, but the back of my fender is smooth where as the other ones have like a plate for a license plate or something.. I dont think mine has been smoothed out or anything..?
