went for a nice nighttime ride today. about halfway through i noticed an odd smell coming from the bike(engine?).

smelled like burning pot, and maybe burning food.

i figured it was maybe some oil spilled that was burning off, seeing as how i recently had the oil changed on it. however that smell was not one i'm familiar with, although i am sort of a 'rookie' rider.

and i assure you i didn't have any pot or a hamburger stashed in the airbox lol

Maybe YOU didn't but... what is the possibility that mice had started a stash somewhere?

Seriously, I'm only asking because it's happened to me, more than once. (I live in a relatively rural area.)

Maybe a little piece of old road kill that was small enough
to have ignored but got picked up by the ft tire and tossed
on the pipes or motor. Prob burned off quickly and is gone now.

hmm didn't think of those possibilities.

i'll give it another good once over to see if i can find anything still there.

mainly only have ducks around my apartment complex, hopefully the mama duck isn't stashing babies in my bike. that could get awkward.

You gotta be mindful of critters, a cat had kittens under my bros riding mower and his wife went out to cut the grass and yes it didn't turn out well. Now bros pissed because she wont cut the grass anymore.

Ducks, or geese? If you kicked up a hunk of goose poop onto your exhaust or the engine it would completely explain what you smelled.

I remember when I was a kid I had a Yamaha 80cc "scrambler" (not the 60/80cc enduro), We used to ride through a particular pasture road that was lined on both sides by mulberry trees and at certain times of year they dropped berries by the bushel. The front tier would throw up the berries onto the exhaust and all the bikes in the neighborhood would stink like burnt mulberries.

yeah i never before considered road debris could be the cause, makes perfect sense now though.

considering all the crap on the streets and whatnot.

Talking of strange smells coming from a bike..
We were visiting my son yesterday and put our bike in his garden and didnt think anything about it.
About an hour later, our 3 year son came into the kitchen with a very black sooty hand and arm. I realised straight away what he had done, he had put his hand in the large opening in my can. It was quite funny until he threw a tantrum and said he had lost his new plastic car!!!
Between the fits of laughter, we shone torches inside and fished about with a piece of wire, but nothing. Obviously he had got it a long way inside.
There was no way I was going to take the full system off, so that I could tip the can upside down to shake the car out, so it had to stay in there.
On the way home, whenever we stopped at lights or junctions, there was a strong smell of burning plastic. It started smelling again this morning when I took the bike out!
Thankfully, I had just bought a new full system off Ebay and I was going to replace it next week anyway.
In future, whenever I go to his house, I will put an elasticated cover over the end of the can.

Nice job with the squirrel pic Polock. Now every POS Greenpeacer's going to be picketing the site!

The math is easy. Squirrel = Tree Rat = Waaaaaay too many of them and many should be dead!

    Thanks for sharing buddy! LMAO
