Ok, Im new here so bear with me! Ive searched thru XjBike archives to see if anyone else has had this problem but have turned up nothing.

    1982 XJ650

    Cyl. 1 is firing sporadically
Cyl. 2 is not firing at all
Cyl. 3 and 4 have weak spark.

Cyl. 1 and 2 have wet plugs and Cyl. 3 and 4 plugs are between ceramic and white.

Most people with spark problems have it on 1 and 3 or 2 and 4. Bad TCI or what??

I have only had this bike for like three days so I dont really know anything about it...

    Any ideas??

The spark is shared on 1&4 and 2&3, so if you have consistent spark on #4, and #1 is not consistent, then it must be a plug wire, boot or the plug itself issue.

Same goes for 2&3, If you have some on 3 and NONE on 2 then it must be, wires, cap or plug.

i had cylinders that were firing but fouling plugs. ended up being choke plungers we not closeing all the way. they even looked closed but were open just enough to make problems. i thank whoever posted first to check that because it got me up and running!

Get new spark plug caps for sure.

Make sure your battery is charged really well (these bikes need a very hot spark).

Get out your ohm meter and test the coils.

    Redo your fuse box.

And make sure you go through the carbs and clean them anyway. It never hurts as these bikes are 30 years old.
