Just got back from a trip to the praries. Took my 1984 XJ 750 RL and sidecar from Victoria on Vancouver Island through Briitish Columbia, the Rocky Mountains, across Alberta and into Saskatchewan. Had a fantastic trip. Stayed with family and friends along the way. Made 2200 miles in 7 days. The only problem I had was after riding in a monsoon fror several hours, the horn started going off on its own. A shot of wd-40 in the handlebar switch cured that. Also my signal light indicators in the dash would glow slightly and the tach would swing wildly when I put a turn signal on. I pulled the headlight and the wires were wet inside. After it dried out everything was back to normal. I have silicone grease on all the connections but will have to try and waterproof it a bit more. I had been planning this trip for months. It was everything I dreamed and then some. I ventured off on some greasy old goat track gravel roads that I would never have attempted without the sidecar. The old girl ran like a champ and never missed a beat. I wouldn't hesitate to take it coast to coast.

Next year I'll tack along, I swear, I mean ... I hope

Photos, we need photos :) Sounds like a great trip Glenn, but we need to see that old girl on screen ready for action.

Yeah thanks for the pics Glenn, it is indeed a fine looking bike you have. I see you've move the mirrors to fit in the end of the handle bar. Is this to give you better vision of what's going on behind?

Those are Napolean bar end mirrors, The give a better field of view,so you are not looking at your shoulders but I find they are not quite as clear as the original equipment. Here is a link.

Man, I wish I had a frame-mounted fairing on my 900! And are those Krauser cases? They look great!

MaximumX: Yes those are Krauser bags. I picked them up at a salvage yard for $125. I used a bit of scrap stainless steel for brackets and then had it all powdercoated. They work great. A friend of mine had one pop off his bike back in the 80's so to be on the safe side I use a leather belt for insurance.

Nice! I've got a set in the garage, with a topbox, but mounting looks like it'd be a nightmare. But you've inspired me! And the belt is a great idea. Looks pretty good too...
