let me know what you think, its a 81 xj550 maxim.

Also, when the bike is first started for the first two or three minutes.. everything runs great. But then once its warmed up, it tries to stay at a higher RPM. I already switched up jet sizes to account for the pods... I started with 125, then backed it down to 117.5. revving and everything works great, but just won't ease back down to idle while riding. any ideas?

and finally, I will have a ton of parts for sale from this bike as well as a 650 soon, so if you need anything message me.

    Why the naked throttle tube?

the other grip kept slipping on the throttle... so i just pulled it off, its going back on tomorrow. I got a new throttle so I do not have to use the stock right control. I relocated the starter button to the right side panel and got rid of the engine cut off

what was the stock jet size on the 550?

sounds like it could be idle, ive noticed on my bike, you dont get a real idle until its been run for 5 minutes or so... and when i was trying to set the idle when it was cold, i would ride it, and the rpms would stay around 3-4K

    awesome bike, too

Simple and classy. I like it. Sometimes it takes hours of extra work to simplify something; kudos.

Thanks for all of the compliments!

the stock jet size was 112.5

and you were totally right.. it was just the throttle adjustment.

the tank and body panels are a dark metallic gun metal,
and the frame is a darker orange/copperish metallic,
both had tons of flake... my brother and i bought a paint gun
back in the day to paint my old jeep so my brother painted it in
the garage (now everything is covered in a light coating of primer dust ha.) the engine and black parts i used low gloss black engine
    spray paint from autozone.

and i avoid speed bumps at all costs haha. just got it tagged today so haven't had to cross any yet.. it will be interesting

    glad that worked,

now, one more suggestion, buy some cheap exhaust tip or turn out or something for that 4-1... i think just the header looks unfinished/ unprofessional on an otherwise perfect bike.

you'll also get a kick if you take that to shows, how much more attention that bike will get than 30 grand hardlys, and then when people ask you "what kind of harley is that?"

i just say, "harley couldnt make a motorcycle this nice, it's a yamaha"

and then, if i do see lots of bolt on chrome on a bike and a bunch of hardly guys standing around it, ill point out a fake oil spot, it will have them searching for a good minute

Very nice drummer! Nice , clean and simple lines and you pulled it off perfectly! I like the color scheme too, nice contrast.
Just my 2cents here but I think this baby is just begging for some simple pinstriping...nothing to extreme I would do it the same color as the frame to tie it all together. something like....

They have some other nice ones there as well.

    +1

And the lines are so clean I could ride a bike like that in my neck of the woods and still not get harrassed by "the Man"...

Looks great. I have the same grips and mine slid too. I had to drill a small hole in the throttle for the set screw to keep it from slipping.

Mad_Bohemian that website with the decals has got some pretty cool decals. It gave me some ideas!

The bike looks GREAT!!! +1 on the brakelight. I am suppirsed no one else said much but you really need to take care of your carbs. I would hate for you to burn up your motor. You need to get the jetting on your carbs fixed RIGHT away. If your pipes are blueing that bad you are running HOT and will burn a hole through your pistons.
I hope you have a good back. My back hurts just looking at that seat.

yea the exhaust definitely isn't finished.. i just wanted to ride it really bad so I threw it back together. The blue isn't from my bike.. I bought the exhaust from someone over the summer and they were already blue. And thanks for the compliment, I can't wait to take it to a show, I get crazy looks driving it around.

The headlights are $30 from autozone, I guess they are fog lights but they are super bright and work great. I wanted to get the legit street fighter lights, I think they are called dominators.. but they cost like 175 and I am a broke college student ha.

The tail light took forever to figure out what I was going to do. I found it at autozone as well, it was a two pack of those led bars, I didn't want to mess with the wiring so i tucked one down near the battery so at night it glows under the seat a little bit. I am not amazing with electrical, so I wired them indepently of everything else.. just using the rear and front switchs....sooo as of now it only turns on when i am on the brakes. (no night riding) once I get some more time I plan on using resistors to get the brake light to be half the brightness while driving.

I think that answered all the questions...
and I like the pinstriping, that looks pretty sweet. I will definitely keep it in mind.

I am posting all the stuff I have for sale in the for sale section of the forums.. so if you need anything check it out.
