So, I have a Super trapp muffler (spelling?) on my bike, and it recently cracked. I, being a stupid younger guy, have still been riding it, and the crack has been getting worse, and the quality of my bike has been getting worse due to it.

I bought a small muffler off of JCWhitney, which arrived today, and I am going to be installing tomorrow, but I'm worried about installing it, is there anything special I need to do, or is it just as simple as taking off the other muffler and putting this one on and bolting it down?

Kind of new to the whole moto world, and my father is at Sturgis, so I don't have anyone to really go to for this type of question.

    Thanks guys!

One muffler? So we're assuming a 4-1 system? What bike? What 4-1, or do you know? What other mods?

Not enough info to answer you.

Sorry, it is a 1981 Yamaha Seca 750, I hadn't edited my sig yet.

It is a 4-1 system. I unfortunately don't know what 4-1 system it is. The bike was garaged a lot, only has 7000 miles on it, so it's definitely possible the actual exhaust valves could still be the original ones?

a 4 into 1 is all four headers into one outlet so you only need 1 muffler instead of 4 (The maxims have a 2 into 1 so you only need 2 mufflers.)

So then, correct me if I'm wrong, the 4 headers will combine into 1 pipe, that the muffler will slip onto and bolt on, correct?

As long as the replacement muffler and the SuperTrapp have the same diameter inlet pipe, yes.

How this muffler you bought may or may not affect tuning will remain to be discovered.

And with only 7000 miles, I'm sure all your valves are probably the original ones. Have they ever been adjusted?

The Supertrapp is chrome Polock, it's a pretty big crack, I could take a picture of it and show you guys...It also looks like it has been welded before at another spot a few inches down from the current crack.

My dad used to have a Seca, and said that the supertrapps are awesome, is it worth having it welded back together instead of trying to put a new muffler on it?

@bigfitz52 I'm not sure if they've ever been adjusted Big, is that hard/expensive to do? I was planning on taking it in and having a tune-up done on it this upcoming friday at our local bike shop, is that something they would do during a tune up?

Sorry all, I'm really new to motorcycles.

might depend on whether you're just walking into the muffler shop and paying cash money to the lady at the desk or if you're taking it to your buddy's place with a half-rack of beer in your tank bag.

You say the crack is spreading? so the JB weld or whatever muffler patch kit probably is no good. The no-mix stuff is not structural.

jb weld hardens and is really brittle when used on a muffler, and is useless (ive tried)

it it's chrom, and the crak is not visible when on hte bike and from 5 feet away, i would have it welded back together

take a picture, a black one is about 150, theres really no reason for them to crack if it's mounted good
