Turn pilot mixture screws out = richens the mixture (unless your pilot circuit is clogged, in which case it may make little or no difference at all!).

I colortuned last weekend But backing the screws out I went yellow (lean) and turning them in It went blue (rich) is something bass ackwards here? It seems to idle smooth, etc.

I like this idea of color tuning, I'm thinking of using it on a couple of four-stroke Yamaha outboards after rebuilding their carbs, talk about tiny jets!

yellow flame is rich and blue is lean. think of an oxygen acetelyne torch when the ratio of air to fuel is increased the flame turns from yellow to blue to white hot. when you want to cut steel you hit the air lever on the torch handle and the mixture turns white hot and cuts steel.

The Colortune Plug is a tremendous TIME Saver.
You get to Visually monitor the Pilot Mixture Setting to find what is an IDEAL AIR~FUEL Mixture for IDLE.

    The Perfect Mixture for Idle.
    Works like a charm.
Turn the Mixture Screw nice and slow, ... watch the Burn ...
Tune for "Bunsen Burner Blue" ... it's just that easy.

That "Blue" puts you in the Ball Park.
The Bike is going to IDLE like Singer Sewing Machine.
All day long; never missing a stitch.

But, you NEED a little more than IDLE.
You NEED to be able to come "OFF IDLE" and get the Bike accelerating.

When you OPEN the Throttles, ... there are 4 or 5 "Rapid-eye-blinks" of cool, fresh air that beats the introduction of FUEL from the MAIN Jets.
This Fresh Air needs to have FUEL added to it to SUSTAIN Combustions.

BLUE does not supply any extra Fuel.
Without that Air being Fueled you'll have a Hesitation.

Your mission is to get the Colortune Plug BLUE.
Keep turning the Mixture Screw OUT ... maintaining the BLUE ...
Then, ... find the "Back Side" of the Blue.

You need the extra "Supplementary Richness" which should be called:

    Taking It Beyond The Blue!
But, my hat is off to guy who invented Colortune Plug.
It takes the guesswork out of Tuning.

I had it tuned in the blue, and went out to as close to the yellow as I could, But when I took my plugs out they were all black.I double checked (clear hose method) the fuel levels and they are all at about 3mm.It doesen't seem to have the snap it did as far as excelleration goes that it had before I did the carbs.any ideas?

    Tune a little leaner.

    Don't push it.
These bikes LOVE to run LEAN.
They will accelerate and yank and make a Formula-1 Sound going through the gears.

Get it too lean and you'll weld through a Piston Crown or worse.

I think I need to lower my fuel levels a mm or 2. I have tuned the idle rich and lean my plugs are still black and I just dont have the pull I had prior the the carb job, must be running to rich from to high of fuel level.

It idels great and runs great up to 4 or 5000RPM then seem to loose its pull especially in the higher gears.
