mufflers

whats the best and easiest thing to do to these mufflers to get more sound and not have to change any jets in the carbs? 85 X

 

sportster mufflers. Cheap and easy.

 

what about drilling out the center plug

 

What sort of work is required to get them to fit please dude?

One of my cans on the XJ700 Maxim X has rusted right round and is only hanging on by the bolt to the frame!

Need a quick change of cans which isn't going to cost the earth as can't get the correct Maxim cans here in the UK

Any one know what other Yammi cans would fit straight on without mods please as need to do this ASAP as I use the bike for work.

Possibly a reducer if thee diameter is different and a clamp or weld it on.

Just spoken to one of the guys in my bike club who's a Harley boy & he has a pair of Sportster mufflers knocking around that aren't in too bad a condition & he's going to bring em home from the workshop on Monday nite and do any mods needed to fit them to my bike for the equvalent of $20 and a few pints!

Any idea what the dia of the pipe out of the collector is please? ! 1/2", 1 3/4"?? Then I can give him the heads up

my 650 had a 1-3/4" on the 4-1. You can measure with a tape measure.

 

Stuck a pair of Harley Screaming Eagle cans with no baffles on for a stand in till we build a new pair. Collector accepted 1 1/2" & had to make up collars as the Harley cans were 1 3/4".
Can't get too many spares for the XJ700 MaximX over here in the UK, so my Secretary in the bike club who helped me with the HD cans is going to make me a pair of pipes with baffles in and turn outs or turn downs.
Should look the business & will post up pics when they are on.

 

I drilled 8 holes in the end of mine going in a circle around the inside of the cone. It gives it a great sound especialy when accelarating.

 

I already had 5 holes drilled in the end of my cans & yes agree they do sound the business .... the only reason I had to change them wasn't because it wasn't load enough, it was because the original can rusted through and needed replacing ASAP to keep me on the road as I use the bike for getting to work as well as everywhere else! The stand in pipes are totally unbaffled and are so loud that only the pensioners with their hearing aids turned off don't turn round to see what's coming down the road, even in 30mph areas!
Will get a re-tune once the replacements are made & fitted, as at lower revs it runs a bit rough, but blasting up the motorway at 110mph going to work in the mornings, it sounds like sweet (load) music

those are screamin eagles? Mine don't look like that.

 

That's what Harley Dave told me ... Think the central bit (now painted black) isn't original, but the silver ends are from Screaming Eagles?!
