Does anyone know how to remove a gas tank from a 1982 Yamaha 650 Seca. I have a leak and I'm not sure where it's coming from. Any help will be appreciated.

    -open seat.
-remove CLIP from rear bolt, located in "tunnel" of tank, just in front of seat. NO clip? No surprise.
-remove spring clamps on small and large lines leading to petcock (small is vac line, large is fuel ine.) Be sure petcock is in ON position, fuel won't flow unless petcock broken.
-lift rear of tank slightly (wedge something in there) and remove both lines from petcock.
-grasp tank and pull/wiggle rearward. It sits on two big rubber "buttons" that slide into semi-circular pockets at the front of the tank, you have to pull it rearward enough to pull it free then lift it off.

Its pretty easy and as long as you get the fuel and vacum line off and are careful with the petcock and rest of the tank you probably wont break anything.

The 2 rubber buttons will probably have the tank wedged in pretty tight so you might have to wiggle it off, no big deal.

When its off make sure you dont bang the petcock on anything, It could get bent and then you would have to get a new one.

Oftentimes both the vacuum and fuel lines have been replaced with the same material making identification difficult upon reassembly, good idea to mark these if you have CRS (can't remember stuff) like myself.

Not a bad tip clipper, however if you forgot to mark them. (Or dont know the difference) The vacuum link comes off of the rubber tube in between the carb and the engine. The fuel line gose directly into the carb

My bike has a bolt, it looks like, through the part where the clamp holds the back end of the tank down. Is that something similar to the rubber pegs in the front and can just pull it backwards, or is that something that I have to take out to get the tank off?

    Thanx

There should be a "clip" engaging that bolt.

Pull the clip straight rearward to remove it.

Disconnect the fuel line and vacuum line from the petcock.

Lift the rear of the tank up, and pull/wiggle/pull it to the rear to free it from the rubber "pucks" on the sides of the frame backbone.
