Well tomorrow is my first day off in a while and I need to do some work on my 85 yamaha 700 maxim.
One thing I need to do is an oil change is valvoline motorcycle 20w-50 wait ok and how much.

Second I need to change the front brake pads
Is dot 3 ok for fluid
Second the rotors seem okay to me they are not warped and I put a caliper on them and came up with 1.85 on both is that thick enough.
Here is the best pick I could get of the rotor

This is what I found troubling when I was checking the rotors I noticed the brake line was split. So that needs to be replaced. If so am I looking at the right part on bike bandit. Are brake lines really $90 8O If so is there a better place to look, Thanks guys here is a not so great pick of the break line

    It should be, AFAIK.

Oh, Len... wherefore art thou Len...

Go talk to Chacal. I'm looking at an old list I made up for him, and it shows that line has being about $45 for the rubber. (Add a few bucks for stainless.) Even figuring subsequent price increases, there's no way he'd be charging you anywhere near $90.

Chuck, we carry both the original style rubber and DOT-approved braided stainless steel brake lines for you bike, drop us an email or send a PM via the website message system for more info......

1.85 (mm?) is far too thin for the rotors......you may wish to re-measure and confirm!:

The minimum thickness for original rotors is as follows (these specifications do NOT apply to aftermarket rotors). The maximum allowable "runout" or warpage is 0.15mm high-to-low for all models, all rotors:

4.5mm for all XJ550 models, all XJ650RJ Seca and XJ650 Turbo models, all XJ700 models, and all XJ750 models.

DOT3 brake fluid is just fine.

dot 3 was the only thing around back in them days.

dot 4 didn't come out untill the mid 90's. it's basically a new and improved dot 3 replacement. and can be used in place of dot 3

Perhaps your units are standard, and not metric? The pics are good I 'd replace the chaffed hose asap.

I've spent a lot of money with chacal and have been extremely pleased with the quality of parts and service. I happily recommend him, and welcome to the site.

The oil drain plug is under and to the rear of the oil filter; it's on the very front of the sump. 19mm IIRC.
