I just got a 1980 XJ650 last weekend. I have been riding for years, but figured it was time to get something of my own and a fun project for the winter. I am sure that I will be on here a lot in the months to come, so figured that I would drop a line to say hi.
    1st plan of attack
    1. get the bead set on the front tire
    2. both front calipers a frozen after I bled them last weekend, so now I have to rebuild them
    3. boil carbs in lemon juice to get them cleaned up
    4. The Rubber adpters and mount the carbs to the head are all cracked up, so have to find new ones
    5. Start building a new custom seat

Ill let you know when plan #2 starts
    BTW, I'm from Wilmington Delaware

Welcome to the site SleeperX !!
If you want to - you can use bicycle inner tube material and RTV to coat your carb boots.
    Get the XJCD for $10
Read the loooong carb cleaning threads on this site,
Check tire date codes and rear brake shoes !! \/ \/

Welcome to the site...probably the most polite and informative forum on the web....the gurus on here (not me!), are like XJ Mensa club.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I am hoping that I will be able to find the help that I might end up needing. This is my first build, so we will see. The bike was only $100, but I am confident in my abilities to make it what I think it can be.

What is the CD that you were speaking of for $10

Hello, I'm new too and just bought my first bike, an 81 550 Maxim, and have already learned a bunch of good info from this site. That's a good looking bike, especially for $100!

Well I am a fiberglass fabricator, so I have a few ideas up my sleeve. I will be taking picks from start to finish and maybe write up a little how to. I will be starting Friday night.
Seems like everyone here is really nice and cool ! That makes having this bike that much more enjoyable
