Hey guys and gals i need some help... I have a 1982 Xj 550 Resto with mods i have a sick carb ( hating life ) and i have a problem when i start up my bike i think that it may be an air leak but im not sure and yes Unfortunatley i messed with the PILOT SCREWS, i just put new Carb holders on and i have a Rebuild kit in the mail but when i crank it over it shoots up ALLL the way to high IDLE i checked all the linkage and no frays choke is in the right spot and i still get suction from the jets !!!!

Help a shade tree mechanic out LOL!!!

Anything over 1800 means the Throttles are open and you are getting Main Jet Supply.

If you h ad the Carbs off ... look to see that the attaching linkage isn't jammed up under the Cylinder Head.

    Followed by:
    Clamps fowling linkage
    Wrong Cable
Idle Adjustment Rod to far open
    Carbs not synced

Try checking where the throttle cable connects to the accelerator, that was loose on mine and it would open the throttle. Tighten the lockdown (jamb) nut to keep it from doing that.

If you start the bike with enrichment & NO throttle & the revs race high, I would look at the diaphrams & an air leak.
