    when i start my 81 maxim 650, it needs no choke,as i know it this is not how a bike works, should i make adjustments to the carbs, and how, or just leave it, also, how much oil do i out it it after a oil chance, about a liter came out, i put that much in, what does it need?

    There is a stamp on the top of the motor casing, should say 2500 or 2750
    that means 2 1/2 or 2 3/4 litres, I would be very worried if I only had 1 litre of oil in there.
    Your bike sounds like it is running rich, turn IN the pilot mixture screws, just a small bit at a time, like 10 deg max & give the motor a chance before you adjust further.

    my case has 2300 if i remember correctly, so obviously it needs 2.3 liters of oil, now the pilot screw is located where on the carbs? ( a picture is worth a 1000 words)

    How hot is it where you are? Sometimes on a warm 90 degrees day when my bike's been in it's garage all day it'll start right up no choke. Cooler it needs choke.

    PILOT MIXTURE SCREW:

    Don't make any big adjustments to this Screw if you are running good.
    Some Bikes in the warmer climates need little or no ENRICHMENT to get fired-up.

    The thing to do is L@@K at your Spark Plugs.
    The COLOR of your Plugs well tell you the story.
    Shoot for "Lunch-Bag Brown"
    Adjust the Mixture Screw to achieve the right coloration.
    Clockwise = IN = Down = Lean
    AntiClock = OUT = Up = Richer

    When you adjust those Screws think of a Stopwatch.
    1 Whole Turn = 60 Seconds

    When you make an adjustment to correct Mixtures that ate CLOSE to being on Target, ... an adjustment of 5 Seconds would be a lot.

    Rick touched on my only point. Say it with me folks "my bike doesn't have a choke, it has a cold start-up enrichening circuit. No matter what the label on that little lever says"

    Think of the lever as being able to temporarily back the screws WAY out. It does not restrict airflow to produce a super rich condition as a choke does. That's why it's so easy to just ride off if you forget you left it on.

    You know it if you leave the "choke" in the on position of my 83 XJ750. Once the engine warms up the RPM's jump to 2000.

    My bike will fire up with no choke if its 85 degrees or more. 84 degrees....I can crank all day long she'll never run.
