    Hi all,my name is Ken and i live in Brisbane ,Queensland, Only just got a XJ650,havent ridden in 25 years and then that was only in the bush so for all intents you could say i havent ridden before. There doesn't seem to be many XJ's over here and hard to find articles about them . The XS seems to be fairly popular.Anyway i will try and get a photo of my bike up soon(will have to get daughter to do it after school).At the moment i'm waiting to get the front brake caliper back from the shop and then hopefully i can get a road worthy certificate and start riding(learning). I havent been a member long and have a heap of reading to do over the next week or so,cheers

    Hi Ken,
    Great site for EVERYTHING XJ. You name it and these guys have done it or know how to do it.
    Check out the FAQ Suggestions and as a suggestion for using the search system, try using the format

    AND universal AND joint
    if your looking for "universal joint" in the search form and
    display results: posts
    return first: all available

    I get good results with it that way.
    Have a good one!

    Hi Ken,

    I live in sydney and bought a 1980 XJ650 last year. I have it on club plates now and found a whole bunch of parts available. I had one of these bikes brand new when I lived in Cairns. I joined this site yesterday and one member is helping me with original paint. Give me a yell if you need help.

    wow, thanks fellas, i certainly will. well finally got my front brake calipers back today , put them back on and me and me youngfella bleed them and they seem to be as good as new. having said that i feel ripped of in hind sight with what i got charged,it was a hard call as i purchased the bike as completely origanal but eventually after some trial and error it turns out the calipers were from an xv 750.anyway i will get my worksop manuel in a day or so and hopefully will be able to do more maintanance and serviceing myself, i have no doubt with the help of the members here i will be more confident to handle just about anything, cheers. :D

    thanks for the info and advice,its appeciated. according to fella i got the bike from he never tinkered with it and it was always serviced at the shop.he only rode it twice in the last 12 months so im assuming the back brakes are ok,they feel good and work well, as best i can tell anyway.at the moment without the aid of a manuel im a bit hessatant to start pulling things apart cause thats how they end up most of the time with me,lol.

    Thanks guys. Do you think we should have an Aussie XJ group so we might be able to help each other out with tips on local parts or picking up bits? Maybe even a ride or two?

    :lol: hi again, well after reading a thread on brakes, the first thing im going to do is check the back brakes,a bit scary really, great advice.secondly it would be good to give the XS club here in Austalia some competition.a friend of mine is doing up a XS 750 and after looking at the spec sheets for both (im assuming there correct)we found out the xj650 has 10 more hp than his tripple.i think he wants a bigger bike now,lol.

    heres a couple of photos, hope they work ok,when i got the bike i was led to believe it was original but the front caliper is from a xv750? it only has one disk as well so maybe the forks arent original either,anyway i like it alot.

    I have an original owners manual (handbook) for one of these if you're ever interested in buying it. Mine is the Euro style (red) bike and i have since bought the correct owners manual from the UK.
