Hey, I am in the process of getting 1981 xj650 maxim and the first thing I wanna do is get rid of the stock handlebars and go with a straight style bar. Anyone have any links to a site where I could find what I'm looking for?

    THANKS !

Just pop off the handlebars and bring them in to Cycle Gear or similar store. Just note that you'll be dealing with changes in cable length and brake line length (won't really matter unless you upgrade to stainless).

Are you looking for flat, flat handlebard? (flat as a board)

Or just something lower/sportier? (like those on the SECA)

Ebay anything thats 7/8" should fit just make sure it clears your tank.
For dragstyle bars you also need to change your Master Cylinder.

The master cylinder was designed for the stock bars. You change the bars and you change the angle of your mc. The top of your mc should be close to parallel with the ground.

Try Bikemaster "European" bars. Lower profile than stock. Straight swap out. No mods needed for my 85 XJ700.

do the 650's have the cable op MC? on those the cable is very short and presents terrible routing issues if you change the bars. It's too short to reach anywhere but if you end up with a shorter distance then it kinks and is too short to put a loop in.

if reservoir and MC on the bars then SLC speaks the truth.

I do not know what model/yr my bars are ( check gallery
maybe you can I.D.) but my MC rides at a very diff angle then
the stock bars and I've never had a prob. I just have to keep a
carefull watch on the level since the tilt throws it off a bit.
