    Greetings all!

My name is Norlyn (thats a male name) and i just purchased a 1983 Yamaha Maxim 400 for a few hundred dollars... it only has 16K original miles on it and has been mostly garage kept.

    (photos to be coming shortly)...

Being 40 years old and getting back into motorcycles after a 21 year absence i have a few questions..

Are all the 400 Maxims DOHC? I have seen some info but i am not sure.

I live in Virginia and the weather is nice here so i am off for a few hours of blasting the back hills and byways...

I look forward to talking to everyone more...

    -Norlyn

I live in the Shenandoah Valley on the I-81 corridor a little south of Winchester. I am on-call with work every other weekend but would love to get a chance to see your work close up. I read some postings and noticed some pics, very nice job...

    Thanks,

    Norlyn

    Thanks.

I bet there's some nice riding down there. I haven't been that way for awhile. I used to take my other XJ (jeep) to Tasker's Gap every now and again.

I'm pretty much a newbie here as well...but welcome anyways!!!

Do a search in the forums, you will find quite a few threads on the 400.
There are a few members here that have a lot of experience with them and that's where you will find pearls of wisdom...

    Norlyn:

The earlier 400's were SOHC. They switched to DOHC in 1982 I believe. I'm currently working over my 1980 Maxim to get it road worthy.
