Started my seat tonight. Let me know your thoughts so far. Still have more to do tomorrow night. Hopefully it will be completed.
I will update the pics tonight after I work on it some more

Here is the bike with the seat removed.

I used pink board from Home Depot. This stuff is great for creating molds. It cuts easy, and you can grind and sand it to the shape you want with ease.

Building up the pink board, and getting it to contour the shape of the frame

Here I have started to grind and sand it to shape. I would continue to do " test seating" to get the shape that was most comfy for me

I wanted the seat to have more shape to it. Also, wanted to tie it in more with the tank. So I added this extra area

This is the final sand for the pink board. I have gotten it to the shape I wanted. This seat is really comfortable even though there is no padding yet.

Here is the fiberglass mat I used. I normally use chop mat because of its higher strength, but I used woven mat here because it leaves a much smoother surface. I will be adding more later though.

Here it is with the mat wrapped. I used a special glue call "Lay Up" glue. It is great because the fiber glass resin will not eat the glue. This will help keep nice tight lines.

Here are the chemicals that I used. These are top notch products. They can all be found at Select Products .. www.selectproducts.com

Pretty neat how it continues the contours of the gas tank. Great idea! :D

love the process but not sure how this translates to a seat you can use. are you building a mold/template for a steel/foam rubber seat or will you be using this foam board/fiberglass construct as your actual seat?
i wouldn't think these materials would hold up long in use.
    just trying to understand.......

Foam board is plenty dense enough to be used as a core for a seat, and the strength of fiberglass will last forever if used correctly. I have a ton of fiberglass experience.
Here are a few galleries of custom fiberglass installations that i have done in the past.

The foam will be completely cover in fiberglass. Then smoothed, thin foam on the butt area, then wrapped. It is crazy strong and light also, as well as comfy (as long as you shape to your body correctly.)

I really like how the front flows with the gas tank! I think that the back should be rounded or something though, i'm not sure but personally I dont like the flat back. But then again thats just me and I know for a fact my sense of style is a bit off :)
