the guy is going to deliver it to me tomorrow, as the rear tire is beyond bad, and isnt safe to ride

i was about ready to call the guy on a xs650 when i said, eh ill check CL one more time... and wham there she is, it's just such a nice bike, i dont know if i have the heart to modify it, my mind is saying no but my body is saying yes..

im thinking about a monoshock set up, cafe tail or no tail, just a seat hanging out there, and i REALLY want a 3-1 exhaust, but they're $600, so i may go to a junk yard, and find 3 identical expansion chambers either from a sled or a dirt bike, and make my own. these things are no widow maker, but with stainless steel disc, if there's moisture in the air, it sounds like they're useless, may try something from a gt750, i dunno, still plenty dangerous.

basically if i modify it, im going to get rid of the oil pump, change exhaust and intake, and lose as much weight as possible

I'm sorry Schooter but if you do what you say I will be forced to fly over to you and cut your fingers off!!!

I've sent you a PM. Very tempted to send your dad a PM reminding him how much you spent on the Grand Prix and get him to hide your tools!

You're "going to get rid of the oil pump" can you expand on that, Schooter.

I used to own a J model with the drum front brake, good reliable bike, nothing outstanding in performance but quite capable of 120kmh cruising, at one stage there were three of us with them

While a 3-1 might sound fantastic it will rob performance compared to 3 single chambers

I've seen a few of them burn holes in the middle piston which Suzuki from stock had a smaller jet than the two outside cylinders, we always went one bigger

If I remember rightly getting rid of the oil pump doesn't work very well as the pump supplies oil direct to the bottom end through oil lines in the back of the crankcase

Good find, Schootums! And I was about to threaten to come up there (less than an hour for me early on a Sunday am) and CHOP YOUR CAJONES OFF if you modded it...

But since you've had a change of heart; let me know if I can be of any help.

    Step 1: Find a BOOK!

Pre-mix will not work in that bike as you will starve the bearings. Suzuki made the most reliable 2 strokes ever largely due to their oil pump delivery system. Dont screw with it unless you wanna kill a great bike. Join the guys over at Suzuki sundial forum, great group of guys who will expand on what I am saying. I owned a gt 250 up until recently and enjoyed many thousands of trouble free miles. They are not fast but incredibly reliable..

nice bike Schooter!! I love the old two strokes. bkerby's right, removing the oil pump is bad news because of the way Zuk lubes the bearings. I redid a '75 a while back and I love it. My daughter made a video.

I've got another 75 GT550 but will probably keep it stock.

    Congrats and have fun!

Hey Jeff, great video. My old 550 had 3 into 3 expansions on like yours, a dunstall fairing and clubman bars.

I keep telling schooter to keep his - or send it to me for "Safe" keeping.

It was soo noisy, my friends mum used to ask me to push it down the road at night before I started it and rode home.

Love those 2 smokes....they make up the majority of my collection these days.
