I just bought an 87 Kawasaki Concours. Right now it's parked in the garage where I'm moving. My Seca is in the garage at home so she hasn't seen Connie yet. I drove my truck home after riding Connie. I went in the garage and looked at Seca and tried to supress the pleasure I had just felt with another bike but I'm sure I wore a guilty look.

Multi bike owners: is there a karma about this? Is my Seca gonna act up now?

My yamaha doesn't run nearly as good as my harley, but since they are both metrics maybe they can be friends. haha

I have been riding my Kawasaki KZ1000 Police for almost 2 years now. My 81 Yamaha Maxim was my first bike, and I wasnt able to ride it for about a year. She started right up on the first try.

I think the Yamahas are more willing to please than to hold too many grudges :D

I would recommend riding it now and again, unless you take the proper measures required to store a bike. Nothing worse that having all that old gas gum up your carbs though. Thats the only karma I could see occuring.

sitting kills bikes. Carb varnish, dry cams and cylinders, batteries, electrical connector corrosion. Ride each of them once a month to keep the battery charged, the oil circulated, contacts scrubbed and the carbs clean. Do this and it won't matter if you have one bike or a hundred. (though riding each would become a round the clock job)

be cool. don't get all guilty and start buying flowers. check yourself for anything "dna" related before riding your other bike.
never let them meet, and most important, if you fail to satisfy them by not riding them, they will KNOW something is going on.
Have fun. Wear a "helmet" and don't bring any cooties home.

I say, be upfront and honest with them both. Get 'em together in the same garage and have a heart to heart with them. Just tell them "Girls, this is how it's gonna be. You're both beautiful, but I need variety. I'm just not a one-woman..err bike, man. I understand if you can't handle the situation, but if either of you start acting up or demanding a lot of attention and time to keep you happy...well let's just say there are a lot of bikes out there that would be happy to get ANY kind action. They don't mind getting rode hard and put away all wet and dirty. You start acting up, there's plenty of bikes willing to take your place...

There will be a little adjustment period while you juggle your schedule to accommodate two bikes...but eventually everyone should happy. Just be firm and don't crack if one of them starts crying.... :p lol

Hey Daver, I did the same thing. The Connie is a great bike and so far my Yamaha hasn't spit any oil at it.

Riding the XJ is like riding a scooter after getting off the Kaw - pretty big difference. Check out concours.org. It's almost as good as this forum. They tend to wander off into minutia a bit more often.

Oh yeah, once you're past the plastics it's a piece of cake to work on, too.

I fully understand your situation. I have a 1970 HD Chopper that my son and I built from the ground up. He broke his mechanical skills in on this bike starting at 8 years old. This bike has recieved all of our cycle passion for years.

Well, I traded a Les Paul (guitar, just in case your not a player) for this 82 XJ1100 a few weeks ago, and I swear that when I go out in the morning to the garage (both bikes are parked together) that the chopper gives me those sad puppy dog eyes and it's bottom lip starts to quiver when I go near the XJ!

I really like the XJ because as fun as the chopper is, I broke my back in 1993 and have had to go to great extremes to make this hard-tailed chopper comfortable for me, (and yes, I can and have done 4-500 mile days on this bike.) But, when I jump on the XJ it's like floating on a cloud!

Love them both and they will both give you pleasure!

Hey gitbox. Yup, there is a noticable difference in ride but it didn't take long to feel at home on the Connie. Surprisingly nimble actually.

How's that BSA Victor? Years ago I was looking for one to turn into a poor mans Goldstar. Cosmetically anyway.

That BSA was my first bike. I think I was 16 when I got it. One big 441 cc piston. You could actually see the dirt kicked up on the road like a dashed line when you got on it. As I recall, it was a dog to start and the points always seemed to be wet. Probably not a good first bike.

captrobb: Yeah, the Seca looks at me with that wide-eyed 7" headlight. The Connie is whispering long comfortable ride in my ear.

I have an Agile AL2500. It's a pretty good Les Paul copy. Flame maple top in cherry sunburst finish.

Glad your still riding! A Les Paul will not help your back. Those suckers are heavy!

Every once in awhile i borrow my friends kz1000 because he never rides it. Ride it for a few days, wash it and give it back. Then next time i get on my xj It makes me remember how great she is!

Last week I swapped out everything south of the cylinder head on my engine from a parts bike I picked up cheap. 10k miles on the parts bike plus 3 cylinder head studs on my original case were stripped resulting in <1000 miles without blowing a head gasket.

With all that I still feel like I did something wrong. She knows something is missing.
