Search didn't help me out, though its been probably been asked before.

How do I remove the stock grips what size i.d. do I need?

I book marked the ISO grips the other day and the helmet lock that can be installed on the end cap. My helmet lock is covered by my Vetter hard saddlebag and my bicycle lock long term is not an ideal helmet locker...

    EDIT:
For those who think these grips are sexy, the model number, via an email from customer service, would be 6241 for the one I posted. (Check with CS if you want a different style).

Put the airline in the end ef the grip, it will float right off.

The bars are standard 7/8" o.d. You can either cut them off with an exacto knife or even better a single edge razor blade. If you have an air compressor and a blow gun attachment you can plug the hole (if there is one) on one handgrip and blow air into the other one. The grips will puff up and you can slide them off. Then do the other one the same way.

BTW getting the old ones off is the easy part............

Nice looking grip with a great feature!

As for size, you'll need 7/8" grips, but make sure you use a reputable place to get them as the throttle grip is ever so slightly larger than the left grip to accomodate the throttle sleeve. I have seen places just pack to 7/8" grips and you'll run into trouble trying to get that over our throttle sleeve.

Instead of forcing air in the hole on the end (if it's got one), stick the nozzle up against where the grip meets the bar (or throttle tube). It should float right off.

I stuck an air nozzle in the end of one that happened to be double walled. It exploded in my hand. That stings and makes the ears ring.

+1 on the placement of the nozzle, you can float grips on and off all day that way.

You will probably need to take a Dremel to the original throttle barrel-- it has lugs on the end (and some rather prominent ribs) made to engage the inside of the stock grip. Or you can get a smooth throttle barrel from chacal.

Pretty much any quality set of grips sold for 7/8" bars will fit fine.

Changing grips has been one of the first things I've done to every Jap bike I've owned.

    A thought:

You might not want your helmet hanging from the end of the bars if it starts to rain while you're in the restaurant...

I use my stock helmet lock all the time, the helmet hangs sideways, on the side of the bike. Just a thought... might widen your range of choices.

My stock helmet lock is covered by my Vetter saddle bags. (I have to take one off to unlock my seat). However, my trunk which is nearly installed will fit one full face helmet.

And thanks for the tip/comments about a smooth throttle rod or dremeling it.

Since you mentioned rain getting into the helmet with that handle bar lock, I happened to find this other one tonight.

I could install it UNDER my Vetter trunk which is HUGE and uses 7/8" mounting brackets. I have to decide if I'm going to paint the brackets black or silver first. LOL

Is it just me or does the black one seem to have a better quality key? Seems like the choice is made for you ;-)
