I just started working on my 81' XJ750 and the first thing to go was the old dead battery. I took it to one of the big-box stores to swap it out. They looked it up in "the book" and told me which one I needed. I get it home and the terminals are reversed and it's too large. I don't know what model number or manufacturer the old battery was, so I don't know what I need to replace it with. Anyone able to tell me what they're using in their older XJ750?

    Thanks,

    XOMBIE

Not hard; look it up yourself. Even though the quick search only may come up with one recommended battery, look for the same size/rating in an AGM style (and you can bypass the battery sensor with a 1000ohm resistor to 12VDC):

If you want to go the Wally-Mart route, they usually have one of those doohickeys next to the display stand that'll let you select the make/model of bike and spit out the suggested battery.

According to the fiche, all of the XJ750s, '81-'83 use a YB14L-A2. So I looked on Yuasa's site, as suggested.

Yuasa only lists it as being for the '83 Midnite Maxim 750, but according to the fiche, it's all of them.

Does this look like it, post orientation and dimension-wise? http://www.yuasabatteries.com/battery.p ... 3&vID=4268

If so, you should be able to get a replacement at Sears, Autozone or any other retailer; you would need a replacement for a 14L-A2.

When I sourced mine, I just needed to know what type of terminals were on it, the height, width and length... I had one, but it ballooned.. I think my charger was bumped to 30amps!!!!!!!! But they replaced it free of charge and now I have a different one. I can give you the sizes and orientation of terminals.. But you should be good with what fitz said.

Go to ebay and search on "12N14-3A sealed". You should find several hits for a universal AGM battery that fits the XJ750's (you will need to construct the battery sensor bypass or your dash light will be on all the time). You can use the advertised dimensions if you want to shop locally.

I lost two new batteries in a row due to PO wiring job. My buddy at NAPA looked up the case size and found the same battery but with the reversed polarity and it was almost half the price. I made a new ground wire and removed the brass extension on the positive wire. Same number minus the A2 part.
