This has probably been asked before and I'm to tired to search at the moment just before bed.

Can carbs pulled off any 82 XJ750 Seca be used for my 82 X750 Maxim?

If the rocker/connecting bar/whatever it is called is different are the "bodies" which everyone cleans and rebuilds the same?

I'd rather find a cheap set of carbs to work on than risk turning my 1st ride into a paperweight...

    Woot!
    Thanks.
Are they 100% swapable? Or have to reuse parts?

100% swappable, assuming the donor carbs have not been re-jetted for some reason.

You have to re-use the center 2 chrome hats, or it just won't run right.

it will run better if you take the seca's muffler bearings and put them in your maxims exhaust when you swap carbs, as they're a sportier bearing

Good to know and simple enough sounding

Unless I get a donor seca that's not likely to happen...

Basically, I'm cheap/broke and would rather work on a 2nd pair of carbs rather than risk totally F'ing up my working carbs on my first bike.

My carbs already need the tiny #2 adjuster screw extracted or retapped.
In a former job, I was never very good at extracting screws. It doesn't help those screws are tiny and brass... So who knows what else will probably go wrong.

If it's a project for ME, something always goes wrong. I could do the same "project" for 4 other people, and mine will be the one that gets f***ed up or has problems. So typical for me /sigh

    You guys are funny
Everybody knows you only replace muffler bearings if the johnson rod is bent. And you may as well forget about doing it yourself unless you have a left-handed screw driver.

    More like mean... LOL

Though we use to get new people in the shop telling them to go find the:

Left Handed Cresent Wrench (no no go ask so-and-so he had it last)
Aluminum Magnet (its brand new invention we bought recently)
Mesh Suction Cup (We use to make these mess parts that were a bitch to pick up with normal tools/hand).

For reference will any other model / years bolt on with just some minimal parts change over? I. E. Just rejetting and few other cheap parts. Would 81-82 xj 650 carbs do the job, or other 750 maxim or seca years?

Pretty much. There might be differences in throttle bracketry and the like but all of the 650 and 750 XJs used the same series Hitachi carbs.

All of the 550s used the same Mikuni carbs.

The only thing to beware of is eBay sellers listing stuff as being for XJ550/650/750; that's rarely true.
