I'll try again in the proper forum, sorry folks....

    My "new" '83 900....
Someone (a Harley owner) has asked me if my clutch lever is bent. Since I have nothing to compare it to, it may well be bent. Works fine, but it certainly appears to not be as straight as the brake lever is.
BTW, 4000 trouble free k's since purchasing, except for a replacement rear tire (nail). If consensus is that the lever is bent, is it possible to straighten the lever without breaking it? If bent, it appears that it was bent by someone pushed straight down on the lever, not as if the ball end was bent back, if that makes sense......[IMG][IMG][IMG]

    Again, thanks, Dave.

Its hard to tell really but if it works fine you shouldn't bother it. Wait till you actually need a replacement lever and then compare....lol My lever looks like that but that because I dropped the clutch lever assembly lower to acomadate my clubmans.

The lever does slope downwards, that's normal.

Definitely does "curve" downward, I'm ok with it the way it is, was just curious if this is "normal"..Funny the front brake lever doesn't "curve" downward too. [IMG]

    Thanks.

And, I was hoping to tell my co-worker the Harley owner that the lever was made that way on purpose, prior to him watching my tail light disappear rapidly in front of him....!

    Hey Super,

If you are in the USA, could you contact me so I can get your bike registered on the XJ900RK Seca Database? I and Chacal are building a list of the few remaining USA-shipped 900's.
You can either pm me or email me: hogfiddles@hotmail.com (no spaces, of course), and I'll tell you what I need for specific info.

    Thanks,

    Dave Fox

Sagging might not be totally the fault of the Lever.

Take the Pivot Bolt out and have a close look at the Upper-side of the Lower
    opening on the Clutch Perch.

The relatively few comfortable positions the "Multi-adjustible" Handlebars options set the Perch at an angle to be eroded by the lever.
The Up / Dn movement of the Clutch Lever causes the Protective Nylon Bushing surrounding the Clutch Cable's Bullet End to deteriorate. setting-up a possible Cable failure.

If you don't want to replace the Perch, ... do a makeshift repair of the Perch.
Emery Board that top surface level.
Cut a piece of Plastic from an impossible-to-open package and trim it to fit the Lower Perch.
Hit that Skid Plate with some Epoxy and place it in there to stay.

Toothpicks to get the overflow and shape the front edge.
When you get ready to do some "Final" shaping of the front edge, ... have a card with a few drops of oil on it to get-on your finger tips to treat the toothpick so it won't pull the Epoxy.

I know mine slows cause of the bolt. I've had no problems with it and there are bigger problems lol if its not giving you any problems then its fine..... Also I wouldn't listen to him he probably takes his bike to the shop to get the oil changes ;)

For heavens sake, people, nothings bent, nothing has drooped, look at the orientation of the pivot mount & the lever is angled to run parallel with the grip.
