I rode to work and back no problem today and parked my bike in the garage like I always do, four hours later my wife comes in and tells me that the garage smells like gas!! So I check it out and sure enough my bike is leaking gas but it's coming out of the carb on only the # 4 carb the highest one when the bike is on the side stand, and it's leaking through the air filter!? any idea's why this is suddenly a problem??

float needle sticking / not shutting off, remove & pollish seat, or better still replace.

Put a inline fuel filter in after carb needle seats are clean. I get mine from ebay for about 3 bucks.

the fuel petcok is leaking, the fuel should stop when the vacuum goes away

even if the petcock works properly when there is something wrong with the needle and seat all the fuel in the line will drain thru the carb with the bad needle and seat

ALL the fuel in the line can't drain, maybe 1/2 of it if #4 is leaking
the float bowl should hold that much
if he pulls off the fuel line there should be no seepage at the valve
and the oil shouldn't smell like gas

all the fuel in the line higher then that needle will drain of coarse its not going to drain the other carbs. if the oil smells like gas would definately think there was a problem with the petcock also.but definately a problem with the needle and seat i would pull the plug on that cyl before trying to start and turn it over a few times to get the gas out of the cyl before it hydrolics. and keep the plug or anything that might spark away from that cyl while turning it over better safe then sorry

you were bang on polock the petcock would release the vacuum so the fuel kept running free problem solved after it filled my case with gas!! now an oil change and back on the road if it ever stops raining
