Check the price this one is up to; just the fact that there is a bid at the price it's at now is a good thing:

Based on what's been happening to the prices of NOS XJ parts over the last two years or so, I would say we are right on the edge of true collector-bike land...

Or it's a poorly executed shill bid. Only one bid and it's $1895.00? It is a beautiful bike but no prettier than yours Fitz. Just a few less miles. It will be interesting if it sells for this price only to be re-listed by the same seller at a later date.

Actually just about the same mileage; when I got mine it had 7K on it.

It looks like he might have painted the cases; that would take some doing to reverse.

It IS an '83 (the front wheel gives it away) so he added the fairing from an '82 or '81, and duplicated the stripe shape and placement from the '81. Nice looking bike (the Max muffies are kinda cute) but it will still take some work to make it really nice.

I'm hoping it's for real; and maybe these things are finally beginning to pick up in value just a tad. (Not that I'm looking to sell any of my bikes.)

Just browse our kijiji listings up here...
People asking 2000+ for 80's bikes in rough shape......

It is a pretty bike, but as wamaxim says, yours are just as nice....

Thanks again; I know, I was hoping a last minute bidding war would develop and somebody else's bike would sell for over $4 Large.

I didn't buy my XJs as investments, I bought them to ride. As I did my Norton; it's just kind of rewarding to see them eventually become collector's items.

A lot of the vintage bikes are heating up right now, interestingly enough Yamaha dual-sports are hot, DT's, XT's, and especially IT's are commanding some real money. Sekas are hot, however the more formidable XJ's can be had for short money in nice shape. I found this just two hours away:

well shucks, that cant hold a flame to fitz's bike, but i still doubt these bikes will have as much of a value of a cb750 or xs650.

anything with a racing history is worth alot, xs650s are masters of the dirt track. they have a cult following in the restoration and chopper world.

cb750s were a game changing motorcycle, they were the cats meow, it was ahead of its time, and they were chopped back in the 70's

If it was a shill bid, he would still end up having to pay seller fees. Which is rediculous. 12%! Thats about $227!

Maybe it's one lone bidder, currently sweating bullets hoping the price doesn't suddenly run up at the last minute.

When I bought my ebay bike (yes, my '83 came off eBay) I put in my very max bid and went out of town for three days. Came back to discover I would be getting the bike for about $260 LESS than my max. Honestly, I thought I was going to be outbid.
